Does the drive show up in BIOS? If yes and you boot into Windows and the drive is not there you need to open disk management and initalise it before you can use it.

I think you will notice an increase in performance, although clearly it won't be like going from a HDD to an SSD. Looking at the AT bench for the two drives the 850 EVO 500GB has about double the 4k read speed of the Vertex 3 120GB.

When using RAID arrays the drives need to be identical models or as close to this as possible. If you have two different branded SSD's then they will be reading and writing data at different speeds and then your RAID0 array is likely to fall over.
Get a WD Green of whatever capacity you choose. Good balance of reliability and cost. HGST drives are generally considered the most reliable on the market but they're also the most expensive. Seagate drives, especially the 3TB DM series are pretty shocking drives with massive failure rates...

You haven't wrote zero's, you have just performed a secure erase. When I secure erase an Intel drive using the toolbox it takes about 60 seconds as well.
The difference is the Pro is marginally faster with much more endurance. Unless you need the endurance which I doubt, then there is no point. You would want a Pro over the EVO in a write intensive application.

For whiteboxes if you match the RAM speed with the max speed of your CPU and stick within the maximum capacity of your motherboard and use 1.5v (ideally, although 1.35v also works) then you won't have an issue.

CS5 takes 3.3 seconds to load on the system in my signature. I have no plugins but I can't see that making up the difference. You must be doing something wrong. It never even took 35 seconds when I used to use HDD systems.
