newegg cyberpower ups 116.99 instant rebate $0 ship

Yeah the pure sine wave version is $157 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16842102133 Still not bad. I paid $150'ish for the one in the OP around a year ago. Great unit. Nets my beastly i7 920 OC'd rig around 12-15 mins before shutdown. Software was meh. I just use the Windows 7...

**DEAL IS DEAD Again?!** Wd caviar green sata 2tb hdd (B-Stock) for $65.99@ cdw

I have owned 11 of the WD greens. 4 of them were 1TB, all are still alive and kicking after 1-2 years. 7 of them were 2TB, 6 of the 7 have failed within a year. 4 of them were new purchases, 3 of them were replacements for failures. 4th failure I just gave up and never sent it back in...

Trying to set up a budget car audio system

Just got the car back from the installer today. Sounds amazing and I haven't even tinkered with it yet. Bass is there where it needs to be, and it has enough power to hit pretty good when I want it to. It's not gonna set any records, but I'm happy. It needs a lil' tweaking here and there IMO...

Trying to set up a budget car audio system

I read a lot into the rear fill argument as well. What I gathered from everything I had read was that it comes down to personal preference more than anything else. What I fully intend to do is hook them up and see how I like the sound with the 6x9's present and then try removing them and see...

Trying to set up a budget car audio system

Just wanted to give another thanks to everyone that gave me some input here. I pulled the trigger on all the components and they're on their way. Final setup looks like this: Head Unit: Clarion CX501 Amp: Alpine PDX-5 (birth sheet says 107x4 + 458x1 @ 14.4v) Components: Alpine Type-R...

Trying to set up a budget car audio system

CraigRT: Thanks for the testimonial on the SPS comps, I haven't found many people's opinions of them other than sales site reviews. Plugers: Thanks for the tip on the PDX-5. I had originally disregarded it due to the low wattage for the subs, but looking at some of the birth sheets for them...

Trying to set up a budget car audio system

Sorry for taking awhile to get back to this, been super busy and honestly forgot about it for awhile. I looked into the Type-R setup, it looks nice, but going with a full Type-R setup is going to be a bit more than I'd like to spend and it brought about another question... I don't really...

Trying to set up a budget car audio system

Thanks for the input Slugg :) I'll look into the 6x9's and the Type-R subs. The Clarion has 3 preamp outs and 4v signal so it looked good to me for a head unit. I picked the Alpine amps because they weren't bad on price and I used the V12's back before I got my PG Ti's and I was really...

Trying to set up a budget car audio system

First off I apologize if this is the wrong forum. I assumed it would belong here. Mods please let me know if it is more appropriately placed elsewhere. I've been out of the car audio loop since the early 2000's so I'm admittedly rusty on brands and general knowledge here, but I'm trying to...

Warm: Newegg - 20% off select Lian-Li cases

Promo code required, but shows up in the product description of the cases that apply. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-_-LianLi-EB1A It's only on selected cases, I tried on a few not on the landing page and the code wouldn't work. However, if you were in the market for one of...

    Questions about a i7 920 Bloomfield OC.

Something to try... My EVGA 758 is super picky about my RAM timings. In reality, it should be better to manually set the timings, but this just isn't the case with my board. It hates manually entered timings for some reason. If I just set it to XMP and go at it, I chug all the way up to...

What was your favorite GPU back in the day?

Well surprisingly found that fast, lol. 6600GT + Zalman samich cooler + hardware store flat head screws + Yate 120mm = heavy arse GPU cooler. Still didn't sag like my 5850 on a full cover waterblock though. Why I'm still using IDE drives here I'll never know, haha.

What was your favorite GPU back in the day?

Ahh the good ol' Silencers. I remember (for at least me personally) when the 9700/9800 ATi's came out and it seemed like it was the start of the aftermarket cooler craze for GPU's. I had a silencer on my 9800pro and I won't even get into the crazyness that I did to my 6600GT to keep it...

What was your favorite GPU back in the day?

My graphics timeline went something along the lines of this... Voodoo3 3000 -> ti4600 -> 9800Pro -> 6600GT -> 8800GTS -> 5850 I smile every time I look at one of these threads because it just reinforces the good decisions I've made in GPU upgrades :)

What would cause such huge Temp differnce in Two Different Cores ?

Bad thermal paste spread (air pocket) or un-even HSF mounting? -edit- picture didn't show up for me till after i posted... I'd clean off the TIM and mount again. My i7 920 has a pair of cores that are 4-5*C apart across 3 different coolers and multitudes of mounts, so I'd say that a re-mount...

    Will our hobby die?

True, I should've been more clear when using that reference. I just meant it in terms of a selling point for misinformed consumers, where the current economy enforces a "less is more" attitude when making purchases. Personally I use an i7 920 @ 4ghz with a single 5850 and it runs 24/7. I...

    Will our hobby die?

I think most people just get caught up too much in the here and now. Sure people are tweaking phones and loving tablets and increased laptop ability. But all that is relatively new, especially tablets. A lot of focus is put onto those types of devices because they're evolving quickly and doing...

Performance-PCS is calling me a bad customer because they sent me the wrong screws

I spent over $400 on my last build at PPC's. Out of that $400, I had a few defective items totaling less than $40, probably closer to $25 if you take out the shipping charges. I emailed them inquiring about exchanges and was pretty much made out to be an incompetent failure of a PC...

Your incredible work with acrylic always amazes me. Your cuts are always so clean and perfect, even with the dremel. Keep up the great work! Builds like this inspire those of us like me, with lesser skills and tools, to take chances and think outside the box.

    Cable Sleeving Thread

I think I'm gonna try the shrink-less method next time and see how it goes. (crimping the pin over the sleeve instead) I've been sleeving for about a little over a year thanks to the thread at XS. There's always something you can get better at doing with sleeving it seems lol.

    Cable Sleeving Thread

Here's a closer shot of the ATX 24-pin. The Silverstone extension plug didn't like the shrink being stuffed into it all that well. You can tell by the little bit of bulge near the pin holes. I think a lot of the bulge was caused by the crimp job on some of the wires. I didn't have a crimper on...

Thanks for the compliments guys :) It's far from perfect, and it was my first attempt at sleeving. I actually ran out of heatshrink and red sleeve during the process so I had to improvise a little bit. Also ran into a few problems of course, lol. You can't really see it in the pic, but the...

Any alternatives to CM 690 II Advanced

The Lian Li/Lancool K62 is a great case. I loved mine. Only parted with it because I moved to liquid and it wasn't feasible for that purpose. It originally came with a windowed side panel, but there are versions without the window if it's more to your taste. Should be right around $100. I...

This might be a bit lengthy, so apologies ahead of time. A few months ago I tore down my X58 rig and rebuilt it on water instead of air. Since the rebuild I've been having issues with my optical drives. Every time I try to burn a CD/DVD, the "Mastered Disc" or basically "finalized" disc...

Fan Noise Dampening with Rubber Washers

Forgot to mention that I also used the Lamptron mounts in my recent build. They are very durable, but if you're a true silence freak you probably won't be happy with their performance. With my Yate Loon mediums at around 1100-1200rpm, there's still a bit of vibration transfer to my case...

I use this on many systems. Especially for friends and family that want cheap silence. However, I typically use vacuum hose from the auto parts store. Keep an eye out for Ripjaws deals at the egg. They're frequently in the Shell Shocker deals lately and are also in the email "Guerilla Deals" and special sales. Just as a benchmark for what the prices can be, I grabbed my 2 8gb kits @ 49.99 each. Anything close to that I'd say jump on it...

No biggie, just figured I'd throw some stuff out there for you to think about. DDR3 looks to be around for quite awhile so that's why I made the decision to go with a 2 or 4 stick set. Don't forget too that if you wanted to go with a dual or 4 stick set, you can still use it on the X58 board...
