I thought I've read that some people have been able to take the SIM card home, but perhaps they got lucky when an employee bent the rules. Or perhaps I'm just confused. (I got the rest right though, right? I'd hate to have gone through all that vB formatting only to be wrong... ;) )

Is he actually forcing the phones to use 2G networks, or is he referring to T-Mobile's throttling to "2G speed" when the accounts reach a certain amount of data usage? Because all phones support "2G speed," even when connected to the modern HSPA+ network, if that's all the HSPA+ network feeds...

Finding a used (or refurb) 4g phone just for data?

Holy cow. Straight Talk AT&T sim card prices are insane!

Try deleting your hotspot's wireless network profile in Win 7, then try connecting again with WPA2/PSK. I have to do that all the time when I use my VZW GNex.

What speeds do you get after using the 5GB of T-Mobile's "4G" data?

It's HSPA+ throttled to exactly 128 Kbps up and down. It's really slow, but IMO, it's no worse than getting stuck in an EDGE area. If anything, at least it's more consistent than EDGE, and pings are better. It still works for email and low-mid quality streaming audio. If you hit 5GB, you...

Agreed with all, except if I'm not mistaken, iOS 4 brought about both background sync'ing and sync'ing over your home WiFi network, both of which were noticeable without having to go looking for them (or having a changelog box tell you).
