The 642-447 Implementing Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Part 1 v8.0 (CIPT1 v8.0) is the exam associated with the CCNP Voice certification. Trouble Spots
Let me start of by saying to all the people out there concerned about the lack of material for the new CCNP VOICE track, don’t be too alarmed. The current material used for CIPT1 6.0 should provide the knowledge to be successful on this exam as well. With that said, make sure that you check the exam topics to verify that you’re studying the correct areas.
The first main trouble spot will be the wording in questions. In my opinion, this has to be one of the worst exams Cisco has ever put together. I recommend that you read the question twice before even looking at the answer. This is a case where knowing the material forward and backward will help: you will probably see questions that are very similar to each other, and your knowledge of the subject will be what decides if you are successful.
The next area of concern will be dial plans and how digits are manipulated. If you can imagine it, then you will probably see it on your exam. The exam will likely involve determining how dialed numbers are handled by the components of the CUCM.
The third area to be aware of is the order of how things are configured. The exam might ask you what steps are needed to configure certain aspects of the Cisco Unified Communication Manager, Dial-peers or Gateways. There will most definitely be a few drag-and-drop questions in there somewhere.
Preparation Hints
The biggest thing that will help during this exam is confidence in your preparation. There has been a lot of talk about the lack of study material available for people wishing to take the test. The CIPT1 6.0 book (Cisco IP Telephony (CIPT) (Authorized Self-Study), 2nd Edition), by Jeremy Cioara, is a great resource to prepare. Let’s face it: not that much has changed between theses two versions of the exam.
Your best chance of studying for this exam is to take the topics listed one by one and make sure you know how it works, what steps are involved to make it functional, the correct order things are configured and how it interoperates with other components. The CIPT1 8.0 exam requires you to have a very deep understanding of Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Gateway configurations. The one topic not to overlook is the functions and locations of the Features and Services required getting the CUCM functional. You should also add Media Resources to an area that should be known.
