Living in Hong Kong, we are getting the ass end of this Commie Chinese diaspora effect. They have no concept of queuing up and personal space, and simply are just uncivilized.

Would brined Madagascar hissing roaches taste similar? Word is that they normally have a somewhat "nutty" flavor.

And when I've had shrimp, someone else has so kindly removed all the insect-like features prior to bagging and freezing.
There probably isn't as much of a service industry available for similar preparation of large roaches or other insects.
I'm American, and so am damn lazy when it comes to food. (I had crayfish once, basically tiny lobsters, but there's a lot of work for way too little meat. Not worth the trouble.)

I think it was because they were so abundant that most people were quite sick of them. Lobsters were considered peasant food during colonial days and for some generation or so after.

And I had been to Dallas, Houston, LA, NYC, Chicago, Washington DC, and I never saw anything like the pics of china even I was not pleased with the cleanliness of NYC subway. I also made several trips to big cities in Asia, from developed world such as Japan, S. Korea, Singapore to developing such as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and even to Australia but nothing in EPIC SCALE as china.

Being in mainland China I get to deal with that all the time. I have people cut in front of me like I didn't even exist. People will ride their horns before the light even turns green. I one time just totally stopped on the freeway because the guy behind me wouldn't let off on his horn and we were all in bumper to bumper traffic.
Hong Kong is just nice. Even walking from hk to Shenzhen you can easily tell a difference between these two countries.
what really got my attention though in hk was cars actually let pedestrians cross.
in mainland its like playing a game of froggert trying to cross the street

That's where I thought this thread was going to go... manners vs. greed (or both, really.)

I was at an upscale casino buffet last year where some fella' must've been fresh off the boat. It wasn't that he ate ONLY the crab legs (and nothing but) but how he was eating them... the horrible, loud noises of consumption... the smacking, slurping, open-mouthed chewing, groaning, etc. *shudder*
...then the worst of it - half of what he had in his mouth was either inedible parts or just too much to swallow so he'd spit the whole wad out directly onto the table in front of him, all around the plate he was eating from.

I'm very glad to say that none of the others in this asian-preferred restaurant behave the same way. I'd guess that their thoughts were probably worse than mine for making their countrymen look bad or something.

That was the worst I've seen at a buffet. Call that a 10/10 for disgusting eating behaviour. I've seen plenty of 8/10 swine of all races at about equal representation.

we've been dealing with chinese tourists for the last 2 weeks on our Japan vacation. they are the friggin worst. Loud as shit, cut in ALL lines, take forever to take pictures, and just flat out rude.
