Don't think CES launch is going to happen
Why? I think if it only ran at 3.2 or 3.4 without turbo, it would sell very well. I think they already have a hit with what they have shown, barring hidden problems.

I had thought Jan 17th for the top-end SKU, with lower-end SKUs in March?

They demo the chip at CES and limited availability begins on the 17th? Or maybe 18th?

Well that's interesting. If the launch isn't January, I'm going KL. Zen is interesting but my PC is failing and I'm not waiting 2 extra months because AMD might have a hit.

I'm pretty certain they are attempting to get the highest clocks@TDP possible and not repeat past mistakes.

Then again, yield is one thing, binning is another.

Even decent yields don't guarantee most silicon reaching good speed bins.

Typically Intel does really well here whereas AMD has traditionally had problems, so needed to increase voltage/currents to make slightly higher clocks... which is typically very inefficient.

I think they should bring it out now at 3.2 or 3.4. If they can get clocks higher, they can bring out faster chips later. I think waiting is a mistake, given what we have seen.

With the caveat that the chips might not actually be ready for prime time yet, and that may be the reason for waiting.

KL = SL + 200Mhz. Far more sense to wait for Zen, or for Coffeelake 6 core i7 mainstream CPU's, also due out in 2017

I can't recommend KL to anyone, unless they don't have a current system to use until Zen/Coffeelake launch.

Yes I'm well aware of that. I think you missed the part where my machine is FAILING. I will slug it out another month but if it's longer, I will not wait.

Do you usually shout at people trying to help you?

How is your PC 'failing'? Usually components either work on they don't. If your rig is the one in your signature, none of the parts are expensive second hand, so it's probably wise to replace the faulty component for a few $ and then buy new, once Zen/Coffeelake is out.

No, I only shout at people who don't read. Listen, I've been through the troubleshooting part already. 7 out of the 10 usb ports on my motherboard are dead. There are other problems. Not going to waste time getting into it and not looking for help. I have a powered USB hub tiding me over until the rebuild.

You sound full of festive cheer Knock yourself out and replace a quad core Sandy with a quad core Kabylake, only for it to be obsolete pretty much the moment you install it.

Failing? You sound like the special kid in the corner playing wow and randomly yelling things out loud.

OK, the three of you knock it off. This was a very nice/cordial thread up until the last 6 posts.

Now back to posting on topic please.

Huh. Looks like the sample tested by CanardPC can run at speeds up to DDR4-2666, but they might have had some stability problems at speeds above DDR4-2400 . . .

Is that written in article itself? I can't read French. Thanks in advance.

As i read it they said:
This sample is supposedly theorecticly functioning at ddr4 2666...

So they dont actually know as i can read it.

Right, my guess is there's a setting in the UEFI for DDR4-2666 but that they either a). didn't use it or b). couldn't get it stable.

As i read it they say the have obtained a stability relative to (corresponding) to a ddr4 2400.

Whatever that means??
But my impression is they have some stability issues with their A0 sample.
Wasnt that a june variant btw?

Then they just upgraded it with the new code.

For the a0 sample in the introduction:
"As with other prototypes it suffers from bugs (as in level uops or smt)

DigiTimes is reporting

AMD's next-generation 14nm Ryzen series processors will be unveiled in the first quarter of 2017 and the new platform will be officially released at the end of February and enter global mass shipments in March, according to sources from motherboard players.
