I would find this hard to believe. Gigabyte didn't switch to UEFI on their boards until Z77 sometime in 2012. They released a beta bios for p67 and z68 boards but it often broke something and most people switched back to Award. It wouldn't make much sense for AMD and Nvidia to lock these...

If I remember correctly PII was slower then Core 2 Quad clock for clock. I had a PII 940 overclocked to 3.6ghz and it was choking on Dragon Age: Origins in some areas back in 2010. I had to upgrade to an i5 750 to fix it.
