I've just tried installing my brand new and rather lovely Creative X-Fi Platinum soundcard on the bottom PCI slot on my Asus A8N-SLI (standard) mobo. While it seemed to work I started getting short lockups and freezes with the CPU going hell for leather when it shouldn't be. I had a look on...
I've had a close look at the Windows sounds and audio control panel and I'm fairly sure it's set up to record from the mic correctly - and it works fine from the back ports.
I'm using the Realtek drivers and associated Sound Manager thing which detects the microphone when plugged in the back...
Just bought a lovely pair of Sennheiser headphones with a microphone headset (the PC150) and plugged it into the front panel audio jacks on my P160 case. The headphones work fine but no joy with the microphone - however it works fine when you plug it direcly in the back of the PC.

Tiorapatea - With my PC at its usual overclock and my GT at stock (350/1000) I get a 3DMark05 of 4921 so overclocking it to 432/1160 gives me over 1000 extra points - whether this actually produces a huge difference in games I don't know.
I've installed my Akasa fan controller (very simple...
Tiorapatea - seems like your Swiftech is doing the job nicely.
Your set up is spookily similar to mine - I've even got the same overclock though mine's stable at 1.45V. I've got the Swiftech's fan running at 5V and my temp sensor jammed in amongst the heatsinks pins - it reports temps of...
Like Tiorapatea I've just installed the Swiftech to accompany my Zalman VF700 and I'm very pleased with the results. My PC is much quieter and temps have dropped across the board -
CPU 36C
Mobo (as reported by Asus Probe) 32C
Northbridge heatsink (as measured by my case sensor) 41C
GPU 47C...
theshep - Before you start tinkering with removing the chipset fan remember that you'll invalidate your warranty. If you're not bothered about the noise and your fan's just crapped out, then the simplest solution would be to just RMA the board and get a new one.
I've successfully flashed my BIOS to 1004 using DOS but I'm still curious about why the Asus Update installer won't even launch. I'm not having any trouble installing anything else and I've used Asus Update on this machine before. Just seems very weird.
Odd one this. I did a complete reinstall of my system the other day and I'd like to flash my A8N-SLI's bios to the new official 1004 version (I've been running the 1005.001 beta version). I'd used Asus Update successfully before the reinstall but when I tried to install it nothing happens - when...
You might well be right about the amount of airflow needed to keep the Swiftech cool. Can you post your results when you are up and running?
I would have thought that the chipset runs hotter when overclocking just because you're working everything harder but I don't know for sure. Similarly...
Yeah, I can get to see the BIOS if I use the dvi to vga adapter but it is obviously a bit of a pain to swap cables. Hopefully it will sort itself out like mrscintilla's. sm8000 - any idea how I can sync the gfx card and monitor during boot?
