true. more and more i think this through with you, the more I am inclined to believe it is a PS issue or the board. PS is easier and cheaper to replace; wish I had an extra one sitting around and a reproducible scenario.

you're right; I was thinking the POST problem was separate. Don't have an extra PS; at least one that is any better than this one. I am thinking of submitting a RMA for my memory; wouldn't hurt to get new dimms right?

Thanks for the suggestion; much appreciated. I am leaning towards the memory controller on the board, the dimms or the PS but it's so difficult to isolate the problem. The frequency of incidents has increased over the past 3 months which leads me to believe the problem is in the PS or perhaps...

Yea I do but the problem is so sporadic that I don't know when the lock-up will happen again. I don't have a way to reproduce the problem; I guess I can put in an old clunker video card for a while but I am fairly skeptical about the problem being the video card mainly because the keyboard locks up.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes I can resolve sites directly by their IP. I can also ping google and yahoo's IP. No proxies on the browser.
