what about your daughters' possible expectation of some degree of privacy? i.e., maybe they don't want their pictures posted to an internet forum. if I was that age, I wouldn't want my dad posting my pictures - I'd be furious and outraged.

if you want to copy the files to the new location, leaving the originals intact in their current position as well, then use the cp (i.e., copy) command. If you actually want to move the files to the new directory, then use the mv (i.e., move) command. if you're not familiar with the command...

headless server: play audio from laptop?

why not just tunnel X over ssh and run a program like amarok (or gnome equivalent)? you don't really need a vnc connection, as you don't want to be running an x-server/ gui desktop on the server itself.
