Thanks, that sounds really good! Any idea which brands of DC adaptors are most efficient and reliable? That's some really hard to find info...
edit: also, will using 12V for the DC adapter reduce consumption even more? Does it matter how much Watt the adapter is? I know that ATX PSUs are most...
Anyone using an AM1 with a picoPSU or motherboard with DC-in? I'm really curious what the actual power consumption is when idle. I've seen <10W and >15W from people using a picoPSU. I wonder what it really is.
Thanks, that's pretty good but is it unreasonable to think that's still a bit too much? Maybe I should go with the lowest end Intel NUC which draws 4.5W when idle...
Thanks, sounds pretty good. Do you happen to have a Watt meter? It's hard to find any reliable power consumption tests because they were all done with ATX PSUs. I'd like to know what this CPU really consumes in idle with an efficient power supply.
None of these figures are reliable since they used a 1250W power supply...
I do wonder what the actual power consumption is with an efficient picoPSU (or any case with built in DC-DC and external PSU)
Thank you, that does clarify a lot. One thing though, I thought that 3.1Ghz was a typo in your previous post but the J1800 is only 2.41Ghz? Is it overclocked? I'd like to leave the CPU at stock speed.
Thanks. Overkill though? It's the cheapest most low-end option now. And it can't even run solitaire decently?
And yes, I often have 5 or more tabs open. Can it run that smoothly? Smooth performance is pretty important.
Is anyone using Ubuntu on a J1800. Does it run smooth for browsing and music? That's pretty much all I do.
Also, last I heard Ubuntu performs worse than Windows 8 on Bay Trail? Has that improved by now?
I'm more interested to see how Ubuntu would run on the Sempron 3850 quadcore. Could you underclock the CPU to 1.3Ghz and see how Ubuntu handles multitasking?
Could anyone who has this or another J1900 board elaborate on the temperatures? Is adding a fan a must? Is it at least requires to put this in a case with lots of vent holes?
I'd like to see some temp figures on idle, CPU load and GPU load (playing a video for example)
anyone using an ASRock AM1H-ITX? the reviews on Newegg scare me with all the booting issues but I want it because of the DC input, more SATA slots and USB3.0 headers. No other AM1 motherboard compares, yet it supposedly has some very bad issues.
Ubuntu should run very smooth on the 3850, right? I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, I do have the budget but I enjoy to see how low-end I can go. Basically I could have an entire set-up that runs smooth with Ubuntu for €160, that kind of blows my mind.
