Seagate Momentus XT 500GB - Good Deal?

+1 to this. I've had 2 different Momentus XT's and wasn't impressed much by them. I personally felt that a Velociraptor was about equal in performance, but was at least consistant. I can't speak for SRT or the Synapse, but based on several reviews I've read, the "real world" speed tests...

Just to add to the concensus, I went from a 128gb WD SiliconEdge BLue to an Intel 320 160gb and noticed no difference at all. According to the AT SSD bench, the Intel drive is superior in just about every benchmark, especially 4k read and writes (I'm stuck withe SATA 3 on my G73 fyi), but I'd be...

Ok, I'll try that when I get home tongiht. I'm wondering if I just had a bad install, as this is a first for me... iTunes may not be the best program, but I literally just reinstalled windows on my older WD siliconedge blue 128gb SSD about a week ago before I bought this Intel 320 160gb SSD...

Thanks man. I follwed the instructions but all the changes were already made... they must have implemented this in the latest version of iTunes. This is so perplexing... maybe i'll reinstall the old SSD and see if the problem persists.

Care to elaborate? I disabled the dvddrive and it loads fine. iTunes has never given me this issue prior to this SSD. My old WD siliconedge SSD always loaded it fine...

That's the thing, there's no CD/DVD in the drive. But it checks for one every time and it takes roughly 20 seconds for iTunes to start, whereas with my old SSD, it was almost instant.

New AT article on 2nd gen Momentus XT

It's $239 on Newegg + shipping... why on Earth would the average user need 750gb of space on an OS/App drive?? For the same price you can almost get a 160gb Intel 320 SSD... I have a bunch of games and all my apps installed on mine, and still have plenty of space left over... I tried on two...
