Photoshop CS PC Specs?

I can say that after working for 2 years on a laptop with 512MB RAM, the move to 2GB made SUCH an enormous difference in photoshop, it's incredible. I tend to work with large images and several files at once, sometimes with 20+ layers, so my old machine would bog down to a halt at times...

Reformatting a Dell laptop?

Dunno about the 1150, but I've formatted my 8200 at least 10 times and put both 2000, XP, XP SP1, and XP SP2 without a single hiccup. Good luck.

I actually found the problem. I had fast writes enabled in bios, and apparently, ATI X800's don't like tha too much. It's a thing for the other team (nVidia). So far, I haven't been able to make this thing crash. It runs like a champ!!! Thanks for the input anyway, I would have gotten to...

does splitting a usb connection hurt performance

I've always wondered this too. In theory, no, I think what's more important is the total bus load of the entire usb bus. Running everything through one port shouldn't affect the performance of one connected device's bandwidth. Any experts?

Yeah I know, I was waiting a bit before I did that. I agree it's the definitive test, however as I said, I can't get ANY doagnostic test to produce any errors, so it's hard to confirm!
