Welcome to real stress testing! :P I crunch a different project for AT, but been following the thread. Thing is, the benchmarks and that you guys do are great for the average gamer, but not for a DCer. Two completely different animals. Glad you found the problem. :thumbsup:

Problem with new build

Actually it's a typical overheating error most of the time. I ran Prime95 24/7 for about 4 years as a DC project. ;)

RAM Problems?

Wired pegged it. It sounds like a HDD issue. If after defraging, you are still not happy, buy a new HDD. I would reccomend the Raptor 150. It's extremely fast. :)

In my experience, if the fans spin up, but no beeps or anything (such as HDD activity), it's usually a CPU issue. I've also had a vid card produce the same results. Try disconnecting everything. Remove the RAM, disconecct everything else, like vid card ect. The board should complain with long...

Negative effects of crunching 24/7?

I agree. Thermal stress (going from ambient temps, to operating temps) is harder on your electronic equipment than just leaving it on. But mechanical things, such as HDD, PSU, and fans will have a shorter lifespan.

What else can you do while BOINC is running

I have a few, but they are PC133 (not DDR) boards. I don't know if they still run however, because they have been sitting in a box for a loooong time. They will only run Tbirds, or Paliminos (I believe a 2100 is a Palimino). You can have them for free, but I'm not bench testing the boards first...
