Most consumers will agree with your perspective (as do I, personally). And, I'm banking AMD will supply accordingly. If there are shortages, I bet they are among the 4gb cards. Not likely due to demand, but supply. In fact, it would be smart of AMD to limit supply of 4gb cards early in order...

That's very possible and a great observation. OTOH, the OEMs could segment the consumer base by offering the 470 for the mass of those purchases and forcing those that are more interested "maximizing the tier" to purchase the highest priced item (the 480 8gb). You actually see a lot of that...
