Assuming you get a mobo that supports the quad and duo there won't be a need to reinstall, will there? I didn't with my amd dual core (from single), but I don't know much about Intel.
I'd like to wait for a core 2 quad, but can't afford to - I need something NOW. Can I build a system around a core 2 duo and later swap it out for a quad without having to reinstall windows? i remember having to reinstall NT when adding an additional processsor.
all this waiting is killing me.
I ordered a mobo, ram, psu, and processor from Monarch. I was ready to build as soon as I got my package...... online everything said in stock, order shipped but backordered PSU!!!!! argh! I called them about it and they never did fix the website to state out of stock. I sat and looked at...
Asus' specs say the motherboard supports 600mHz - 3000+. I guess it seems obvious, but i remember this particular board and card were coming out around the same time, so I am curious if the documentation is just old on the Asus website. Thanks for any help.

Fishy,
What kind of crash are you talking about ? I have the non-F and mine crashes by shutting completely off. Random, moslty at bootup, farcry often, sometimes while moving around in bios, regardless of hardware attached.
I still have shutdown problems with my Neo4. I reinstalled windows on an IDE drive but only installed the network and audio drivers. Everything seems to be working ok (2 ide hdd, 1 sata hdd, 1 dvdrw, etc). In the device manger it shows drivers are needed.
What drivers MUST be...
I have neo4 and have the same problem - except no bsod, the system just shuts down hard. Of course I sent it back to Monarch and they said they couldn't replicate (my patience and warranty is running thin).
I can only play it for a few minutes then it crashes. and have to remove...
After MSI telling me to RMA the board to the retailer, then only to have the retailer (monarch) send it back to me saying they couldnt replicate the problem, I'm still trying to iron out what's wrong with my system - it shutsdown after post when rebooting.
Does anyone have more than 3 ide...
Sniper,
Hmm... The other PSU was out of a Dell which was a 24pin 350, and it seemed to work just fine. I have the 4pin + 20pin connected. Everything seems fine on first boot, just shutdown restart that it kicks off. ugh.
Elfear, are the only problems you're having are the bsods?
Anyone have a K8N Neo4 Platinum w/ an OCZ modstream 450?
I just installed the ocz (was using another psu). Afer I shutdown the computer, when I turn it back on, it posts fine, but at the very last step before the windows starts, the system shuts off, the power LED blinks slowly. The...
I just installed OCZmodstream 450 on my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum. (had a Dell PSU prior) This problem is new:
After I shutdown windows, it goes through the logoff / shutdown sequence then turns off the computer properly. BUT the next time I turn it on, it posts, checks ram, drives, raid then...
Ah, I see. Thanks. This is my first build, I'm supprised there isn't more standard control over fan speed depending on temps.
I guess I'm going to cancell my ocz and look at an antec.
