    Best 8800GT?

Hilariously enough, I've just completed a step-up from my $110 (-$15 MIR which doesn't invalidate the step-up) 8600GT to a $270 8800GT which if you look online is $20 more expensive and out of stock. So I'm very happy with how the step-up program turned out.

    Need help with Thinkpad purchase...

The T has no built-in firewire. The T's main advantages are greater portability, better graphics, and a metal top surface which supposedly makes it more durable - although to me it did the opposite, because it flexes more in the middle and makes the keyboard scratch the screen when severe...

    using 2 batteries in a t41

I just let it discharge to 0. It's not that big of a deal, and I'm more concerned with convenience. Since I have an old main battery too, it would be useful for me to have such a feature too, since if the slim battery is at 0, I can't take out the main battery to swap with the other one without...

T40 Display missing pixel (0,0) NOW FIXED!

237358U (fyi all T40s are 2373); not sure about the driver revision. The version on ati2dvag.dll is 6.14.0010.6392, and the date is from 2003, so it's older than yours. I had the pixel bug, and now it's gone.

T40 Display missing pixel (0,0) NOW FIXED!

It's a driver problem. I've seen that pixel not work with an older driver on my 1400x1040 in native, I've seen two pixels not work in non-native (800x600 scaled up it was I think), and right now it's working in native (24bpp).

    IBM T40/ T41 Flaws???

    1) CPU/GPU power circuits buzz ever so slightly when in some power states, like in some instances of scrolling. Not usually noticeable. 2) If you're carrying your laptop with the rest of your junk, the metal sheet that is the top surface flexes when something pushes against it and may cause the...

Thinkpad Ultrabay Slim DVD writer - when will it be available?

Does anyone have information on this?

Is it safe to walk around/put laptop in a bag while it is on or in standby mode?

My T40 is never off - it is either on or sleeping (standby). (It will go to hibernation if sleeping with no AC after 6 hours, but that rarely happens.) I carry it in my backpack with no extra padding and all ventilation blocked for 10-12 hours a day, and I've never seen it so much as get hot to...

One more question for T40 owners

You have cost IBM a considerable amount of money in technical support by sending back laptops with superfluous problems. (Not that your actions can hurt IBM financially in any tangible way...) Most of the problems you describe are inherent in the design of the T40 line or the components used...

One more question for T40 owners

Well, I do think that Mocca's pickiness has cost IBM several hundred dollars by now. Some of his "problems" are quite ridiculous.

azazello HELP ME plz.. SOS..T40P and MS bluetooth mouse : MOUSE SUCKS unless you use the MS transceiver

I don't know if you have to use the MS BT stack, but that's what worked for me. Actually, the procedure for installing is a bit different: you just find the Bluetooth receiver (under "Bluetooth radios" in "Device manager"), right click that, and click "Update driver". Then get to the point...

azazello HELP ME plz.. SOS..T40P and MS bluetooth mouse : MOUSE SUCKS unless you use the MS transceiver

Read my post above carefully. It mentions where the installer for the MS BT stack resides. You can uninstall the IBM Bluetooth software from the Control Panel. I haven't used this mouse with IBM Bluetooth software, but it works great with the MS stack and I expect you'll be able to make it work...

One more question for T40 owners

The video card switches display modes when going from the boot screen to the Windows startup screen. (Obviously installing the drivers won't affect that, since the drivers are not loaded when the alleged flicker occurs.) It's not unusual for the card to output crap on screen when switching modes...

    yet another T40 question

With the generic WinXP install (no IBM power management software installed), the T40 is perfectly safe to put on/off AC while on suspend. I have never had it crash due to that. (Some third-party drivers might potentially be buggy when handling suspend/resume, which may cause your crash.)
