My daughter has a Samsung Series 7 Chronos which has been nothing but a PITA since Day 1. I put a new SSD in it, and Windows 10 Pro, probably some RAM and about a gillion hours of time trying to make it perform. Needless to say it is still a POS and I would like to fling it from an overpass...
I can get a replacement screen for $80 or less. I doubt it is affordable to have repaired by others. How can I determine if it is the display or the inverter?
That is the correct key combo and when I toggle back to the laptop display I get the garbled screen once again.
If the graphics chip had somehow failed, wouldn't you think it would fail completely? I don't know how to isolate this any better.
Is it worth trying to reset the CMOS? I'm guessing...
BIOS screen comes up only on the extended display (black screen on notebook). If I disconnect the second monitor, the lappy stays black.
This model has Intel integrated graphics.
Daughter's Lenovo B570 Notebook is only a year or so old and has had zero issues. Couple of days ago she had the display extended to a Dell 23" touch screen and left it running overnight. At some point the lid got closed and presumably the machine went into hibernation.
On wake-up the laptop...
First off - thanks all! Several dots connecting together in my tiny brain.
Optimized defaults are loaded.
I had not considered a CMOS battery ... its about 4 yrs old.
The beep code is not matched .. BUT a stuck key might do this! And she said she was having some keyboard issues. How...
My daughter's HP laptop squeals EEEEEP EEEEEP EEEEEP (about 1 second squeals and ½ second silence) at startup and black-screens with blinking cursor. Loud and high-pitched - I just want to beat it with a hammer til it stops! From here it will never boot.
If I can catch it at the BIOS it will...
Plugged a spkr in - still no beeps. I know ECS is well, ECS but this box was just for my kids, and mostly surfing, so not exactly subject to demanding use. Unless anyone has a bright idea how to troubleshoot without a display, I guess I'll contact ECS support and duke it out with warranty.
Not to thread-jack, but I am having a similar issue.
Elitegroup A780GM-A. Been running fine for a few months (6?) since bought new and installed, but yesterday the monitor just showed "no signal'.
I tried using the on-board video (removed the second card installed), switched out the monitor to...
Can't get it to run that long! I'm, just running the PC Health in the bios and it locks up there after 3 or 4 minutes - so that's even before the OS gets loaded. I even underclocked to 2600 and it locked at 44ºC ...
Update; I guess its not heat ... even underclocked and at 44ºC the system hangs after a few minutes in the bios health screen. From reading other threads it seems like o/c'ers don't crash until at least the 60ºs...
After much reflection, I am now thinking this is (at least partly) a heat issue. The power supply seems to be cool; the fan is working and I blew out the little dust that had gathered. I cleaned off the cpu with isopropyl alcohol and carefully reapplied some Arctic Silver.
After being off for...
Hard to rule out - I don't have another one and its an expensive item to buy just to test. Iran the hardware monitor on the last mobo and it was reporting all the voltages as being pretty accurate.
The thing that is kicking my butt is the system "seems" to run until I do some "work". I...
Running it off a mat to rule out any misinstallation / grounding issues.
My last stab is that the default bios settings may not match the components somehow for voltage etc. The OCZ Reaper is problem in that it is 2.2v default and even tho the bios is set to 1066 I don't think it bumps the...
