Hey Timekeeper... I don't think this is legal either. Here is the reason why. While there are some sites that offer free POIs, those were intended to be distributed freely and are to some extent similar to software (considered freeware). In the event of Magellan, Tom Tom, or Garmin POIs...

I'm not sure if this is legal is it? Hacking your own system is one thing, but then distributing the files off another system so that others can do so without paying for the additional content is wrong, no? Just my two pennieis...

Comcast vs a linksys BEFSR41 router.

Linksys BEFSR41

Pretty much all routers firewalls are the same. It uses NAT to act as your firewall. If you want more customizable firewall...get the Linksys BEFSX41 (has DOS, mac filter, time of day blocking, etc....)

HELP! Im losing my mind!!!

Are you using standard Cat5 cable? Is it longer than 15-20 feet? If so....bump your card down to 10Mbps,...instead of 100Mbps. It should work fine. If you still have problems...10:1 chance that you have IRQ sharing problem. Check pinout of cables too: Cables should be 568B pinout...

Connecting 2000 Pro and XP Pro

Make sure both computers are on same workgroup. Then go into control panel, user accounts, and enable guest account/login. Then go to your drives, right click, select sharing...viola! Networked!

Networking with XP pro/98SE?!?!

Bump NIC to 10Mbps instead of having it trying to autosense at 100Mbps. Lots of times, if the Cat5 is longer than 25 feet, it'll be hard to get a good connection at 100Mbps...why? Beats me...cheap NIC and poor cables...I guess. Also make sure computers are running in the same workgroup, and...

NAT Firewall

ICS is a pain in the butt...If you set up through computer...the "main" one has to be on at all times. As for security...your other computers "behind" the main one should be fine. Just get a Linksys router, and that way...there is no "MAIN" computer and you are protected on all computers...

No Hotmail

Try setting MTU, possibly even cloning MAC address (why? Don't ask me...it just works a lot of the times). Try to trigger port 443, and maybe a new firmware might help too...

Internet won't work...

make sure modem in in the WAN/Internet port....clone the MAC address of the main computer....and he may need to bump cards down to 10Mbps.....(that is if there are no link light when plugged into router)....
