Can some explain these cpu differences to me in an easy way?

Actually, even though i know it was a mistake on the cache but that amount of cache would hurt more than do any good.

Blocking Ports

So what i said was basically right. I think. I will block ALL incoming and leave out the way it is. any one on the lan would have to worry about outgoing on there own. So you can in fact have your lan setup that way. I was worried people coming in. Outgoing, will be very cumbersome to manage...

I am talking about TCP Ports. I wanted to block all incoming. Not worried, just taking preventive measures.

Blocking Ports

My question is what happens when you block all coming ports into your network? For instance, since i have blocked all ports incoming but i can still connect to AIM, WINMX, etc. My understanding is that because I did not block outgoing ports, i should be fine or am I talking out of my ass?

Will you accept how more and more high speed internet isps are limiting how much you download + upload in a day/month?

Am I the only one seeing the light here? What makes you people think that ISP are losing money from High Speed connections? The reason they are starting to limit is because some customers take it to far with downloading and uploading. The porn master type and mp3 lords is the real targets of...

DNS and Google

After playing with the google bar for a while, the problem seemed to resolve with the "PageRank". If that is enabled, basically google has a ranking system where collects information on where you going to "rank it" for future patrons of that page. I might have read it wrong but here is the link...

Firewall for network

How would i be able to protect my lan if the pc is not directly connected to the dsl modem. that is what the router is doing for me. I would use that firewall pc for server work like dhcp, port forwarding, etc...

bellsouth fastaccess DSL networking

it is better to have a router w/external modem. But with a pc, once that pc goes down, net connection is down. Only external modem(w/ fastaccess) i know about is the Alcatel adsl modem. One of my friends has it and hasnt had any problems at all. I assuming you are using windows 9X, NT, 2K...

bellsouth fastaccess DSL networking

I have Bellsouth DSL. I may be of some assistance caused I have successful networked 5 pc's on that connection in my house. The way my setup is: 233mhz with 2K Server, DSL internal pci modem, internet connection sharing. 4 other pc's connected via a 10mbit Hub.

How can I sychronize my bookmarks between home and work ??

For IE: File-->Import/Export-->Export Favorites. (this is for the home/office machine)....the same thing except "Import" Favorites to the machines after u export there bookmarks. I hope it makes sense. there is no program that i know of that will synchronize 2 different machines...

Recommended way of starting a system

I have heard the best would be to get everything else first then MB and Processor. Like HD, RAM, Case, then Mother board and Processor. Any suggestions would be good cause I am bout to start building a system that I know it will take me 2-3months(budgetting has it that way) to get way I want...
