Western Digital 100GB $69.99 AR Circuit City 4/13

I've tried both in the exact same system, and the ONLY way I could tell any difference was if I was benchmarking the drives. As far as normal everyday operations, the 2MB cache version is perfectly fine. At less than 70¢ per GB, this looks like a great deal to me!! :)

I've bought many, MANY refurbed products from NewEgg and have never received a bad one. I believe the products they sell as refurbed are not customer returns, but rather the replacements they receive from the manufacturers to replace customer returns. (This is of course only my opinion) Newegg...

Strange findings in 3DMark 2003 with Radeon 9700 Pro

Maybe this is old news, or more than likely, no news at all, but I was adjusting the BIOS settings for my Radeon 9700 Pro (using RadEdit 1.1d) and I happened to notice a memory timing box in the editor. The default setting in my original BIOS was CAS2, but if it can be adjusted, how would I ever...

Intel P4 heatsink?

hmmm... I didn't even think about the warp factor. Considering the tension that pulls the heatsink up against the CPU, I was always concerned that those plastic pins holding the heatsink mounting bracket onto the motherboard might get heated up over time and allow the heatsink to move away from...

9700 PRO overclocked to 384/337... Average?

Well, I downloaded and ran 3DMark 2003 and my first full run with everything still set as above scored 5396 :cool: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=373781 Maybe the higher memory speed is helping make up for the lower core speed.

9700 PRO overclocked to 384/337... Average?

Thanks for the link Wingznut. I downloaded RadClocker 1.303 and I'm only able to get the core up to 364 with no artifacts, but the memory on this card is sweet! I was able to O/C it all the way up to 351 :) I'm running this with a P4 2.4b running at 2.7GHz (150FSB) on an 850E Gigabyte 8IHXP...

Thanks for posting some numbers. I just upgraded to the 9700 Pro, and wanted to see what program or utility is being used to overclock the 9700 Pro. You know, just in case I might be so inclined as to try a little mild overclocking ;)

Did you try to find another nearby store? It seems I have several AT Hot Deal finders in my area, and it's always a challenge to get in on one of these OD deals. This time, I have to drive an extra 10 minutes, so I just ordered a second for pickup at another store. (to make it worth the drive) :D

Is formatting drive C: good enough for installing a new mobo?

I've been through 3 different motherboard/CPU combinations and twice as many video cards, all without formatting my C: partition. The very good advice about switching video drivers to Standard PCI VGA mode will insure that you'll have video when you boot up the first time with the new hardware...

You are correct about the fact that a physically crashed hard drive would make it very difficult to recover any essential data, no matter how many partitions it's split into. The main reasons people prefer to use a separate partition for the OS are faster access and defragmenting times, and so...

my cdrw drive letter disappeared from windows

If I had to guess, I would say that the freeze-up you saw was caused by either the IDE controller or the CD-RW not initializing properly. I've seen this happen before, usually if there is a CD in the drive, and usually when the system boots rather quickly, like on a restart. Has it happened...
