Recently I decided to make a spreadsheet to calculate the actual power draw for a typical computer. I know there are PSU calculators aplenty, but base on what I've learned over the years, these tend to significantly overestimate the power requirements of a computer.
So I'm trying to be as...
I'm pretty sure any monitor that can do 120/144 Hz in games can also use that refresh rate on the desktop. I have an overclocked Korean 1440p monitor and it runs 100Hz in games and on the desktop. There's a noticeable improvement in smoothness even in Windows when you above 60Hz.
Sorry for the slow reply. Hope you've found working memory since the original post. I do have the same motherboard as you and the RAM I mentioned in my initial reply works perfectly at its rated speed. I'm on BIOS version 1804.
I realize this thread is a bit old now, but I finally got a satisfactory resolution to my situation. EVGA is directly refunding the purchase price of my 1070 SC (although I bought it at Newegg).
I originally got an advance RMA for a new card, but I was unsatisfied with the noise levels of the...
I'm using the 3000MHz Vengeance LPX with zero issues on the ITX Asus Z170-I Pro.

I'm sure the standard 2133MHz will be compatible, but you're also giving up some performance.
I wouldn't consider any EVGA Pascal card now. This will be a black mark on those cards' reputations even if it doesn't have any impact on longevity. Good luck ever selling it.
I'm hoping I can get a refund on my 1070 SC, but I purchased it in July so it's gonna be tough.
780 Ti -> 1070. Largely for lower power consumption as I just moved from full tower to mini-ITX.
This DPC latency bug talk has me nervous... card coming tomorrow.
Looks like Newegg recently got a bunch of refurb/OEM M500 drives. I bought a refurb one in Canada last week for $110 CAD (480GB), which works out to $85 US, though it only has a 180 day warranty... the SMART data for my drive showed 51MB written and 5 days power-on time. I was pretty pleased...
Sounds lovely. That's quite an outlay to replace all spinnies at this stage in the game. I currently have 6TB in 5400 rpm storage drives - once I can get that for ~$500 in SSDs, I will join your elite club. The worst thing about the magnetic drives is the noise - I can't stand the noise.
I feel kind of addicted to buying them too. If I had just kept some of the drives I've sold... I wouldn't have had to buy so many!
Current SSDs in my household's computers:
2x Sandisk Extreme Pro 480GB
Samsung 850 EVO M.2 250GB
Crucial BX100 250GB
Micron M500 refurb 480GB
Intel X25-M G2 160GB...
Actually professional drive recovery has become more affordable. My sister's laptop drive died (unrecognizable by the BIOS) and she sent it to Seagate (the manufacturer) who charged a flat $500 rate to recover all of her data - mostly years worth of irreplaceable photos, which of course weren't...
How did you set this up? By caches do you mean browser cache and swap file?
I'm moving to a double SSD system and would like to get as much performance out of it as I can, but I don't want the hassle of RAID.
Great news! I'll definitely be bookmarking this thread because I've had noise issues like this come up from time to time on my systems and those of friends. The two working solutions: USB ground isolator or optical out from the PC.
I actually have a similar setup right now with a USB...
