Question AMD Phoenix/Zen 4 APU Speculation and Discussion

I think I need to clarify, since the wording in the table is a bit ambiguous: "Not run" means I haven't attempted to run it. "Did not start" means what it says, of course. Crysis seems to have problems launching on recent systems. I think I just got a black screen shortly and then back to Steam...

@Markfw I saw you discussed suitable OS for testing on the Pi 4 earlier. I suggest you use the official Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit beta, which to the best of my knowledge is very stable at this point...

At least for single thread, I'm guessing it's ~15% improved IPC. Goldmont to Goldmont Plus was 25-30% on average. Also, the J64XX has 15-20% higher frequency than the J4205. 1.7/(1.3*1.15)=1.14. Not awfully exciting either way... The graphics will of course be a pretty major improvement, though.

I've run quite a lot of tests on both Goldmont and Goldmont Plus. From my own testing, it appears Goldmont Plus is between Penryn and Nehalem in IPC. A 30% IPC uplift on top of that will result in IPC closer to Haswell.

I was interested in getting the Ryzen version, but the battery figures sort of put me off. I'm actually more and more leaning towards waiting for Tiger Lake and Renoir. It seems likely that there will be a quite disproportionate performance increase from both the Intel and AMD camps within 12...

The most likely reason for that is not that the test is flawed, but rather that the load is bursty enough that it's not detected as 100% due to the sampling period used when measuring the CPU load. The main problem with short tests like these is that they usually don't uncover thermal...
