No one said anything about form factor, merely the hardware and software that power it. Absolutely nothing prevents MBA and iPad Pro from co-existing to service both markets while sporting the same SOC and OS.
Its generally not a question of performance, but of cost. It is expensive both in parts and labor to maintain systems that are no longer in warranty. The places I have worked, IT has maintained a policy refusing to support hardware that is out of warranty.
Unless OEM's start offering 8 year warranties (which would be slitting their own wrists) businesses are going to stick to the ~3 year cycle, and as we all know they are the ones who drive most of the revenue/sales.
For comparison, I have an old Phenom II 940 clocked down to 1Ghz, popped it up to 1.2Ghz to see.

Its not his fault that leftys piss themselves every time they see something potentially dangerous. In fact it amazes me California highways are as congested as they are considering how dangerous an automobile is.
