I tried a 7200.9 and it sounds almost exactly the same as the 7200.10. So close that I'd swear they must have labelled the .9 wrong. Is there a util that would tell me?

thanks. I did some reading and found the post where someone discovered how to tell the difference between the silent and noisy drive. Unfortunately theres nothing on the outside of the box to tell and when I try to RMA this drive, Seagate will discover that theres nothing wrong with it other...
Does anyone here have one of the newer Seagate 7200.10 hard drives that use perpendicular recording? I've got one and it makes this high pitched noise that I'm sure will eventually drive me insane!
Its a wireless router but the connection is wired. The problem is simply convincing the router to give the NIC an IP address. I've tried other routers and other NICs and it seems the only problem is the combination I need to use. I cannot log into the router from the P5B machine.
Title pretty much sums it up. I've got an Asus P5B + Netgear WGR614v6 router and they refuse to play nice. My PC cannot get an IP but if I use my old router it works fine. I'd happily use my old router but then the various laptops around the house would have no internet since the old router...
Its a Realtek...
So it appears to be my router that is the problem. I tried an old router and it worked fine. I may try resetting the router to its default settings to see if that fixes anything.
I posted this in tech support but this forum category would have been a better choice... Please take a look and let me know if you have any ideas. I'll be RMA'ing the board tomorrow if I cant figure it out.

ping 127.0.0.1 works fine. I manually gave the NIC an IP address and now it shows up on the router's "attached devices" screen. But there is still no network access. Anyone seen this before?
I tried that this morning with no luck but I might try that one more time before I consider RMA'ing the mobo. I almost feel like using a NIC i have on hand instead of going through the hassle of returning it but according to the specs this mobo has a gigabit NIC and I have none of those (but...
1. I tried the cable connected to the pc I'm using now.
2. It shows up fine in device manager. I think an add-on NIC will work fine but I'm annoyed that the mobo NIC wont work. I'll pull a nic out of an older machine this afternoon and try it.
