laptop showing 120M RAM with 8M VIDEO RAM...

with only one serial port, how many com ports are available?

the bios doesn't indicate anything disabled in the peripheral configuration. there is no listing for serial b, only serial a, which is really making me think that i have a useless serial port on the back of my machine, unless of course i remove the modem and use a NIC to go online. any other...

modem port already open?

windows ME. modem on com3. when i try to connect, i get a port open error. i went into bios and disabled com1 and this seemed to solve the problem, although i am now getting a "no dial tone" error. i assume the "no dial tone" error is just a failed modem...could this be software-related? no...

"EMM386 not loaded. Press any key when ready" at boot. ??

this keeps coming up at boot after a reformat. if i don't press a key, after about 5 seconds, it continues to boot. is this going to cause any problems or does it indicate something wrong? is there any way to prevent this message from coming up at boot? thanks.

BIOS won't hold time/date settings

got two machines here with similar problems. on one, the modem locks up the phone line. the minute the line is plugged into the modem, the phone cannot be used. on the other, you can call out on the line, but you cannot receive incoming calls...the callers get a busy signal. btw, both modems...
