Also don't know if this could be affecting anything. I am trying these changes through both the Realtek HD Audio Manager and through the Windows settings. No difference.

I muted mic volume, I got silence on the recording. I muted line volume, and I got no sound from me but a perfect recording of my game audio. I am loading the shotgun.

I have checked under Master Volume, both input and output, and there is no option for mic out. I did some sample recordings in Sound Recorder, and they are very muffled and there's a ton of static. Yes the 20dB boost helps but I can barely hear myself. edit - and yes I don't have speakers...

Hmm okay, just tested it in warcraft and they can kinda hear me, if I jack the mic volume in game to max and I speak up. But now they can hear everything that's coming through my headset speakers and they're getting a nasty reverb. This is with the analog headset.

Changing WinXP remembered password at login

Typo there, it's "control userpasswords2". I thought that would be it but there's nothing under "remembered passwords". Any other places this could be?

That's a good point about the full backups. I'm very meticulous about sitting down with the customer and going over any and everything they want backed up, and then I do my own little look through. But yeah it would probably be better just to image the damn thing and be done with it.

Crap help me save my hard drive!

Sounds like your partition got fragged. I've used PhotoRec and GetDataBack successfully to get data off drives in this situation. Good luck.

Well first off, you have to get some RAM modules in there that work. 1 error = fail. You cannot work around a hardware fault. You said you tried some RAM you had "laying around", are these known good modules or random spare parts in a drawer? If they test good in one machine and aren't...

Nah you're not an idiot, you just overlooked something. Happens to us all. As a rule of thumb, the second I see anything that just doesn't "feel right" I immediately Memtest / Drive Fitness Test the machine. Ideally I'd run those on every box depending on your timeframe.
