I recently started building my first system. The cpu is 1600+ and the mboard is the Shuttle AK31. Similar to what has been stated repeatedly in this forum I bought this after considering the price/performance ratio. Anyway, the guys on the shuttle motherboards forum over at amdmb.com are...
So maybe put on IDE 1 & 2 : hard drive (master), cd rom (sl) and then on IDE 3 & 4 possible second hd (would be master if added), cdrw(as slave if 2nd hd added, otherwise set as master). Does this sound like a good setup?
I have one HD, a cd rom, and a cd-rw. How should I set up these devices? What I was thinking was leaving only the hd on the first cable (IDE 1) in case I ever wanted to install a second hd and then put the cd rom and cd rw on IDE 3 & 4 (setting the cd rw as master since I will use that more...
Well, I started building my first system and I am happy to report that I got a POST message without a burning smell! I am looking for some advice (or website) on how to approach the next steps including setting up the bios for my setup. I am running a Shuttle AK31 mboard and an AMD 1600+ cpu...
Well I'm not a Shuttle groupie or anything like that but $80 bucks just seemed like a steal when compared to the other boards. Even without OC'ing will you really notice a difference in performance. What is an extra millisecond anyway? Sure, it doesn't have some of the "on board" stuff the...
I know Tom's articly was concerned only with performance and features in their article but this warrants mentioning...In Tom's roundup they say some of the lower performing boards are disappointing when compared to the competition. But keep in mind the pricing structure. For example, they...
I am in the process of building my first computer...I have a Thermalright sk-6 and an amd 1500xp cpu. The directions from Thermalright say to place the Gelvet pad on the bottom of the heatsink and install. Is this pad supposed sit on top of the small black square on the amd cpu? Do I use this...
They have a 40gb 7200rpm hard drive for $98 bucks. Couple that with the coupon code and you've got a deal!

I am trying to take advantage of the great Crucial discount but there are 3 diff't 256 DDR modules. There are some differences in the specs but not exactly sure what they mean? Can someone provide some guidance? Thanks.

I am getting the Shuttle KT266A board and was originally going to get a mx400 card. However, after hearing about the deal for the gts-v 32mb ddr card at newegg I am rethinking. Are these two safe to put together or is this a potential endless list of conflicts? Thanks
I have decided on all the components:
Antec sx1030 w/ Enhance power supply (300w)
Shuttle AK31A
AMD xp1600
CardExpert mx400 64mb
Crucial 256 ddr (Where is the coupon Anand mentioned in the weekly price update?)
The only thing left is the heatsink and fan. Help please!!
From what I understand, NTFS is the technically more efficient way to go. However, FAT32 will provide you with more flexibility...access from other os's, etc.
