So I lied. I went ahead and ordered with the latest $70 off coupon. Ship date is listed as 3/23, since it's backordered. Anyone gotten this monitor from Dell lately? Surely it won't take them that long to get it in stock...

Logitech z-2300s

I need to replace my Logtiech z-540 system (sub/amp blown), and I'm thinking maybe I don't need surround anymore. So, I'm looking at the Logitech Z-2200 and its replacement, the z-2300s. Anybody heard both of these? The z-2200s, if I can find them, have a $50 rebate, so they'd be in the $50...

broken pin on hard drive

This ended up being the problem for me on my IBM/Hitachi GXP180 (my post here). Replacing a single pin seems pretty tough. I like the idea of cramming another pin in the connector on the cable, and leaving the cable connected permanently, but I don't know if it'll work.

Hard Drive only works when connected as ATA33

Ok, figured it out. One of the pins on the IDE connector on the drive is broken off. Yuck. It's the one just to the right of the "blank" space where the notch on the cable goes. This hasn't happened to me in 7 years of building computers-- guess I've been lucky. Anyone know how to fix this...

Hard Drive only works when connected as ATA33

Ok, so once when I restarted the BIOS told me "no 80-pin cable installed." Duh-- I have an old IDE cable hooked up, because that's the only way the drive works. I tried switching again to the ATA66/100 cable, and again, the HD wouldn't boot. Is this a mobo or an HD problem?

So I put in my new NEC 2500 DVD burner the other night. It worked fine, but the first burn didn't work. So, I shut down and popped the case open again to check the slave-master jumper settings on the burner. Tried to boot up again and I got the "insert system disk error." I have a IBM/Hitachi...

SPDIF Confusion/Question

Ok, here's a question along these lines. nForce 2 passes DD 5.1 through the SPDF out, whether it's games, movies, etc. The question is, though, if I watch a DVD movie, how do I get the digital audio to the mobo, in order to connect the SPDF out to my receiver? Do you have to connect the...
