I have no luck with LCDs

Actually the PSP is pretty well-known for having dead pixels. Just google for "dead pixels". I don't really like the term though, because many companies nowadays try to push the definition of "dead" as "dark-only" rather than both bright and dark (with bright ones being called "stuck pixels"...

LCDs have refresh rates?

LCDs do have a refresh rate, but it is not anywhere near the important consideration that it is for CRTs. A refresh rate simply means how many times the image can be updated every second. So a 60 Hz refresh rate means that the monitor is capable of displaying 60 new images every second...

Which LCD should I buy?

Uh, nope, that 19" has a pixel pitch of 0.294 mm. They simply wrote the spec wrong. All 19" monitors that are 1280 x 1024 have a pixel pitch of 0.294 mm. A 0.264 mm pixel pitch is for 17" monitors.

About LCD montiors...

Samsung's much-publicized zero pixel defect thing is only in South Korea. Where competition is fierce because the world's biggest two LCD manufacturers (Samsung and LG.Philips) are based in South Korea. Actually, I lied. Samsung also has a zero pixel defect policy in Taiwan I believe...

17 inch vs 19 inch lcd

What's the contrast ratio on a CRT?

2005fpw screen looks 'wet'

Do you mean that it looks somewhat grainy? The light that LCDs emit is polarized (this is what enables them to do their magic in the first place), which means that they are very susceptible to uneven film thicknesses. In other words, maybe your monitor really does need wiping off with a wet...

LCD dead pixel return policies

It depends on the person. My first LCD had 2 dead pixels, quite noticeable, but they never bothered me. Having said that, many companies actually have stated policies more like the 8-10 range, which is ridiculous. Unfortunately, the American public ain't too interested in demanding changes...

Warning: Screen door effect on 19" LCD monitors.

The pixel pitch doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the screen door effect. The pixel pitch simply refers the size of the pixels. The screen door effect is a result of the gap between pixels being large enough to be noticeable at regular viewing distance. I saw a Sampo LCD TV...
