I do believe Mozilla has started doing at least some basic checks for this sort of thing for any addon/extension on their official repository. Things sometimes will and do slip through the cracks, but they remove them as they're reported. Beyond that, to be absolutely sure, you'd need to look at...

Windows 7 Activation Problem.

You'll have to call their activation hotline and get an actual person on the line so you can explain the situation. Since this is a retail product, not OEM, it should have transfer rights and be a pretty simple matter.

Touchwiz/Sense etc bandwagon hating

I have to admit to actually liking TouchWiz on the whole. I haven't used any of the others, so they might be a different story, but especially if you get a custom TW ROM with all the useless garbage stripped out, it's quite nice IMO. I have nothing against AOSP, but it's just sort of blah...

Xbox Remote

I'd just suggest getting a Harmony, or some other programmable remote. Then you can always repurpose it for other uses later, or even control the TV, Xbox, and stereo system all from the same remote.

Newegg open box a safe bet for motherboard purchase?

I can't speak for any other vendors, but just the other day I someone do an RMA for a NewEgg open box video card. So, it's not like you lose the option to do an RMA, assuming other vendors have a policy more or less the same as Asus.
