How would a single XeonE5 2697 v2 stack up against the likes of a 3930k in terms of raw computational power? I was potentially thinking of convincing my PI to purchase either the 12 core, or the 10 core version to speed up our mathematical computations in quantum chemistry. We currently like...
Agree that asus service has been flaky lately. I went through 3 bad boards( P8CWS )since April trying to deal with their RMA service. Darn thing would always shut off during prime95. When I changed to an Asrock 1155 board with everything the same, the problems went away. Turned out the 4th asus...
Thanks for the replys guys. I think I will try to borrow a spare drive from a friend or something, just to do s quick test of my system. I was under the impression that installing windows to the flash drive would be just as easy as from it.
Hi Guys,
I am currently trying to install windows 7 on a test system, and do not have an hdd yet, so I want to use my 64gb flash drive temporarily instead. I have the windows 7 dvd and when it asks to install to the drive, my flash drive does not appear as an option? Does anyone know why? I...
I think tigerdirect still has the bundle going, but the prices are jacked up too. I would have picked this card up for myself regardless of the games, but I just pulled the trigger on an Evga GTX 660 SC for $180 with free metro last light, which I think is about even.
Sapphire Radeon HD 78780Ghz is $169.99 AR. I think it's a steal for anyone looking for a mid range card. Cheers. ;)

My gtx660 arrived this morning, and when I opened the box this is what I discovered....2 small pieces originally soldered to the pcb have broken off and are in the box. Here is a pic. Is this a big deal? I have not tried the card yet, but thought I should ask around the forums to get some input.
Agree with Cerb. The 350D is probably one of the best micro atx cases now. Another alternative is the Fractal Design Arc Mini. But personally I would prefer the 350d if given the choice between the two.
Yea, if I upgrade to a better monitor some time (perhaps black friday?), I will definitely will consider putting in another 660, by then, they should have gone down in price even more!
Thanks for your responses tviceman and Yuriman. I just pulled the trigger on the 660 and don't think it will disappoint. Both cards are a huge step up from my 9800gtx+, so I guess I'll be a happy camper. :)
It probably is, but to make sure, remove your video card from the system and boot the computer without it, making sure your dvi cable/or vga cable is now connected from your monitor to the back of the motherboard. Then see if the problem persists.
As far as AIO liquid coolers go, the h80i, h100i are both good choices. The h60 however is kind of too close for comfort. Alternatively any large, high end 140mm air cooler are also great if you have space in your case such as noctua or phanteks offerings. But since you have a mini tower, I...
Try running graphics off your motherboard using intel integrated graphics on ivyb, that way, if you see all your problems disappear, then it has to be the video card....most likely.
I was going to purchase a video card in the next couple of days (upgrading from 9800gtx+) and am currently torn between this 7850 OC 2gb and this GTX 660. I am not an nvidia or amd fan boy, but they both have pros and cons. Currently I like the AMD free games offer atm, but then nvidia is also...
