I built a desktop back in 2012 with mid-level components. Looking to build another desktop. However while everything is still fully functional, I don’t need my old PC anymore.
what are some ideas on what I could do short of throwing it away?
I went with greens cause of cost and noise. Didn't want loud HDDs. However, problem with greens are they auto-park more frequently to save energy - do it enough and it impacts drive life/reliability. You're also waiting a bit to load programs/games or make saves as the drive engages. So I...
So I have a software raid 1 set up with windows 7 (my mobo can do hardware as well, but went with software initially and didn't feel like starting over to go to hardware) for two HDDs (media/documents, not primary boot). Anytime I have any sort of abnormal shutdown or reboots, or whatever, the...
Corsair HX 750. I have it, and although the fan is fixed speed, its very quiet.

Great reviews as well!
Looks good, but its a bit expensive, even for USB 3. May have to wait for a better deal on this model to come along.
Why did you settle on that?
Did you look into Rosewill RDCR-11003: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820223119&Tpk=Rosewill%20RDCR-11003

Cheap and quiet high capacity drives and now...
Refresh rate can be safely assumed to be 60 Hz. The Catleap advertises as going up to 120 Hz, but doesn't seem to be stable.
As for resolution, I am not sure I understand. Its 2560x1440, as its the same set of panels.
So got the new replacement PSU. The WEI noise is still there, but its as half as loud now - I think. Good enough...will stop paying it attention now.
So while pulling the FTW card out during my testings, I accidentally knocked off a surface-mount capacitor (or resistor, couldn't tell...
Your fans must be loud! I was just running benchmarks one night and I heard this. At first, freaked me out. Opened the case to find out it was the graphics card. I have a very quiet place :).
Btw, how are you clocking so high on your FTW? I am getting only 1228/3402 before it goes unstable...
So I got the second card, and it turns out it has the same coil whine at the same volume. I guess it's either part of the design or it's the PSU. My second PSU is coming tomorrow so I will be testing that out then.
On a side note, I wanted to see how these two FTW cards compared. The new...
