Home Web Server Question

http://www.devside.net ..is more of a windows site. Most of the instructions are for win32, with VS.NET compiler for source builds And the package is for Windows 2000/XP There are plenty of Linux instructions also, but it looks mostly like a win32 server site.

Audigy digital out, what kind of jack is it??

I'm thinking that the only way you can get a 5.1 out is with a game or cd file that uses a 5.1 soundtrack. Otherwise, the Audigy card does not encode Dolby Digital 5.1 from all the different channels on its own(it has no DD encoder). Though it could be that the digital out is Audigy's...

Why does no one carry the Intel D845BG mobo?

It's only the most stable i845 DDR motherboard out there. I'm looking for the SE version...USB2.0, no LAN. I've only been able to find the ones with integrated LAN with usb1.1. Does anyone have a source?

Thoughts regarding the X-Box...

What a load of crap. I had a PS2, and now I have an XBOX. I noticed how most of the PS2 owners are saying that an XBOX is a "low end computer"; if you believe that truly than that statement implies that a PS2 is a "game boy". The XBOX has a superior hardware design, by far of any game console...

Wow, current PS2 games only use 25% of PS2 power!

More crap that people have no problem swallowing since it makes them reassured about their PS2 purchase. The PS2 has been out for a year and no games make use of the system to more than 25%!!! LOL. And what exactly does this garage hack, I mean "analyzer", analyze?

Low level format

No such thing unless your talking about a 4+ year old drive. Now days all a low format does is zero out the data. The track layer or whatever you call it remains the same. Don't bother with those low-level utilities as they only waste your time.

Building and running my own server, is it too much headache?

You got a OCx pipe laying around? Because you can forget about it on a dial up, cable, or adsl connection. Even a small site can generate huge amounts of traffic. I'd outsource it to terabyte or some other provider if you can spare $20-$50 per month. Unless your doing a bio page or something.

AMD 761 North bridge, similar bus used on Alphas?

I was reading an article on /. and someone mentioned something about how some older alpha cpus used the AMD 761 North bridge as their bus. I knew that the chipset was very stable, but if its based on a design they used for Alphas than its about as stable as it gets.

Which brand of the GF3 Ti500 is the best?

Leadtek used to have the better GF2 cards and I would still pick them for a GF3. They are the only ones that I am aware of that have a dvi out(and a tv out) on a ti-200 model. A bit more expensive than the rest.

Neither Intel, nor any motherboard manufacturer has stated that the current 478 pin motherboards or the i850 chipset will support the upcoming Northwood core. How hard is this to figure out from that? (Even given Intel?s track record) Now, a couple of months away from the Northwood core...

No manufacturer has claimed support for the Northwood core. Just becasuse they put out a 478 pin solution, that does not mean it will support all future chips with 478 pins.
