Wow, very same thing I've been debating with myself.
I have a 5000+ BE, a Gigabyte 790GX DS4H and also 4x1gb ocz 1066 ddr2.
I'm leaning on just buying a 940 as I just got the 790gx and probably won't upgrade at all to am3 until the next platform has a tangible 25-50% increase in...

if true this could indeed explain the Dead silence around it.... 3ghz Agena FX with 2 hd2900xt's breaking 30.000 marks in 3dmark2006
how much does a core2 fare atm?
70megs, then a 170 and a 270 all together in my 386SX 25MHz
after that 4gig in my aptiva 166MHz w/ mmx
there p4 willamette 1.4GHz after 40 gig - 80 gig and then the system in my sig.
very good points mondobyte...
But I've read about using cool 'n quiet on a overclocked cpu with certain mobo's (something about using the %overvolt option) which would also throttle oc'ed cpus at idle back to the lowest multi...
anyone confirm?
ppl in the comments I have a statement which does not seem addressed and makes me feel like there is inconsistency whithin the article.
it is regarding the power consumption on the last page:
"While the Yonah and Athlon 64 X2 systems consumed relatively similar power at idle, Yonah hardly...
the 6600gt is gonna outperform the 5950 worse than the 9800xt in dx9 (WOW)...
she's probably gonna be able to see a nice difference in smoothness, fx and eye candy.
but if there would be any cost involved it wouldn't be worth the difference imo
jesus christ, ppl don't take THG that seriously,
even their own dedicated members at tom's forum do not taanything toms crew says seriously (look over at their community)...
and porkster stop trolling everywhere on the net with bashing amd (like in Toms forums)... your reasons for doing so...
6600gt is a mainstream card: MAINSTREAM!!
the X700pro/9800pro are comparable to it. the purpose of this thread is completely dumb with some of the ppl who play along in it too.
you could've told the guy already to stop insulting all our intelligence and at least compare apples to apples...
so you run your socket 775 P4 640 in the physically incompatible Socket478 (i865) board?
oh wait, I see, I also run my AMD Barton 2600+ in the i925xe and I could turn on Hyperthreading too... joy oh joy oh joy.
would someone slap this guy back to reality?
lmfao
Hmmm, I'd suggest for core components:
Intel: 630 cpu's (for HT & 64bit but the cheapest ones R fine)
mobo's: i915 w/ IGP chipsets (on board video and available pci-e for future upgrades)
AMD:
cpu: 3000+ Venice (bad: no HT, but good cheap and costeffective i.t.o less power/heat...
