Regarding the good results of colorimeter tests... I think colorimeters see only the average color of a larger area, not of individual pixels. So, just because the colorimeter mesurements of a monitor are good, it can have whatever grid and checkboard patterns and whatnot.

970p 6-bit + dithering

Well as I warn visitors on my page about this topic, do not call things dithering that are not dithering. 970P uses "standing" dithering, or how could I call it. This means that it doesn't cause any flickering, so movie scenes that doesn't move will not show any moving patterns because of this...

I believe that anybody who is such a professional user will not accept the dithering. This monitor is certainly good enough for gaming and like, but hardly for image authoring.

I swear I didn't looked for any 970P related writing, but still I have to face this myth again... Samsung 970P is not 8 bit, it's 6 bit with dithering, without FRC. The same goes for Samsung 193P+ (and certainly for 193P too). I know, thet are PVA and the spec says 16.7M... but still they are 6...

For me, if I enable the trask tray icon, clicking at it starts MagicTune withing 2 seconds or so. If I disbale it and start MagicTune with the regular way (quick languch icon or like), it takes about 10 seconds to start. I find that annoyingly slow. Regarding it connection to the crashes...

970p 6-bit + dithering

If accurate color grade reproduction and image authoring is not important for you, I certainly wouldn't recommend a CRTs over 970P. And most certainly there are true 8 bit TFT monitors as well, just the question is, how should one know which monitor is that...

I see. I don't know what's that exactly (you may take a photo of that)... However, note that even 8 bit panels may use some kind of dithering or similar trick, because 8 bit is not enough to display 16,7M in reality, since the contrast/brightness/gamma is adjustable and also some color...

I don't know how/why Samsung has ended up with 6 bit + dithering, instead of using 8 bit. (I can't even know for sure if Samsung sells 970P-s like these in all countries... they can safely do it here in Hungary, as consumer rights are practically non-existent here, but maybe not in some other...

There is a method that uses "moving" patterns, called FRC. This is what most 6 bit TFT-s use, as far as I know. Maybe it depends on the viewever's eye and brain, but I preceive FRC as if many faint flickering diagonal lines are crawking in certain colors. But I doubt anybody sees it as random...

That's what marketing says... In fact they can flicker, just differently than CRT. Other than defective back lighting, flickering can occur due the trick called FRC (and maybe even without FRC due poor quality source driving). FRC is used to seemingly increase the numer of colors by rapidly...

8-bit? Do they state it directly somewhere? Because it is 6 bit in reality. The 970P that's shipping nowadays here is, at least. And its box still says 16.7M colors. Well, see here for more details: 6 bit with dithering on 970P (and the mirror page if the primarly is down).

I don't really get what those 2 images meant to be... The noise that you refer to usually looks like when you have weak reception with an old TV, and is mostly visible in the dark colors? Then, don't you happen to use D-SUB instead of DVI? Regarding the gamma and seepage... the thing is that...
