This suggests what their direction is for their server chips. I posted recently about how using Ultras for that role is a stopgap solution only and Apple will have designed some sort of custom solution (since using Ultras as a stand in is a compromise that wastes a lot of silicon area on...
You're just reaching for completely made up reasons to hate on desktops on this point. First you deny that laptop GPUs can handle multiple large monitors when they have for years, now you say needing a dock makes a laptop a desktop!
You aren't carrying the multiple large monitors around with...
The Ultra has always followed the Max launch by months, it would be a big change to launch them alongside one another. If they ship a new Ultra this year I would bet on it being M4 Ultra not M5.
Maybe they can address whatever the reasons (yield/testing, packaging, verification?) that cause...
Chiplets make more sense for Apple with a changing mix of needs. They had enough volume to justify separate dies for base, Pro and Max but not Ultra, so that was made by connecting two Max dies. Now they have this internal need for a lot of AI servers, but the chip they need for that isn't any...
Do you know or have a guess as to how long the remaining steps between "finished wafer" and "ship to customer to install in their products" i.e. dicing, testing, and InFO-POP packaging would take?
If the China Times claim that mass production of N2 starts end of April is real then they'd be able to start shipping Macs using those chips by their usual October/November time frame. But there was also a rumor last month that production of M5 had already begun. We'll find out soon since TSMC's...
What happened to the rumors that Nvidia was prepaying for N2 and would be at the front of the line along with Apple? That can't be true and it also be true that Nvidia isn't shipping anything N2 based until 2027.
Maybe someone just assumed that with Nvidia having all that cash that they'd...
N2 risk production started last July. Mass production will be starting in H2 2025, not risk. China Times had an article (referenced by wccftech) that seemed to be claiming (automated translation is always a big unknown with such things) that mass production of N2 will begin around the end of...
On the one hand if you own one you probably like seeing this, on the other hand you have to wonder how in the world the drivers were so substandard before that such a big performance gain was possible.
If they end up having some sort of 'Ultra' every year it would make sense to have Studio trail Mac Pro, similar to how Macbook Air trails Macbook Pro in getting the latest Apple Silicon.
Its also quite costly to make everything in N2 when the BOM of the non Pro phones needs to be kept down. So I think they'll split between nodes like they did with iPhone 15. That doesn't mean they will get the same cores, some of the cores from A19 might be rehashed - or maybe like with iPhone...
What do you base that on? I haven't seen any bandwidth comparisons, and since they have a similar number of pins I can't imagine the bandwidth would be all that different.
The main thing this is doing is completely screwing the chances of LPCAMM going anywhere. With two incompatible standards...
Not sure there are all that many such people.
People who haven't OWNED a Windows PC, sure. But people who have never used Windows are fairly rare - people who haven't attended school in the past 25 years and never worked in an office I guess?
There are a lot of people who are USED TO Windows...
