Computer audio out very noisy?

I agree, sounds like grounding issue to me. I don't understand how removing the earth pin from the plug helps though? I feel I should since I did a physics degree, but it was many years ago and electronics was always my weakness.... care to explain? Just installing a USB ubuntu image so I...

Computer audio out very noisy?

Took out my 2 data hard drives. No help. Disconnected DVD drive. No help. Also seems worth pointing out that I can "hear" my PC through the static. Hard disk seeks induce a different noise. A white screen versus a screen of text induces a different noise, etc etc. So, is my PSU bummed?

I wondered if it might be my surge protector, but have just ruled that out. Also plugged into a completely different room in case I had a dodgy wall socket. Disconnected all external things (USB, network, monitors) and still get the same problem. Opened up my case and had a wiggle of all...

First of all I'm a long-standing member but couldn't get my old account using, not posted for a couple of years. My speakers recently died, which led me to use headphones for a while. I couldn't believe the amount of hiss on them, I'd assumed my aging speakers were the cause of the problem...

Samsung R710 good choice?

Actually, just been to a few shops. Regardless of friends' past experiences, I think my money will be going to Sony. VGN-FW11E, just looks SO much nicer than anything else, samsungs included. Not a bad spec for the money either, £720.

PS I don't care much about gaming/graphics, but would be quite upset if it couldn't play a downloaded 1080p HD movie etc, do you think it'd cope with that? PPS I know I said "on the move" and then "portability isn't a concern". I'm not contradicting myself. I want something so I can work...

Flippable 24"+ LCD?

I see the Dell monitors have a built in swivelling base, but only 45° each way or something. I wonder if I could easily modify one to give me the full 180 that I want...

Flippable 24"+ LCD?

The time has come for me to buy a big screen, but I'd like to be able to use it both while sat at my PC, and while sat on the sofa. I can accomplish this by picking it up and rotating the whole thing 180° so it faces the other way, but will invariably knock things over or pull cables out etc...

Which speakers are right for me?

I'm currently using some Videologic DTS Digitheatre 5.1s. They had incredibly good reviews when I bought them, and I've been using them for (at a guess) 5 years or maybe more. A year ago though the digital input died, so I've had to switch to analogue, which gives a lot of hiss by comparison...

Vista SP1 not showing on windows update?

nerp, yeah I know, but this is the first stable windows OS I've ever had I think. Actually w2k was ok iirc, but i think that still crashed a bit for me, just nowhere near as much as 9 so i thought it was amazing at the time :) will leave SP1 until i have a backup computer i think, just been...

Vista SP1 not showing on windows update?

Not rebooted my Vista box in 42 days. I see everyone else is chatting about SP1, but when I go to windows update I don't see it, even if i click "check for updates". i already installed SP1RC, so do I need to uninstall that first before WU will show me SP1 proper? I presume rebooting will...

Any decent way to dampen HDD vibrations?

I've just done something INCREDIBLY easy to dampen my drives. They're simply sat in the bottom of my case on top of HD-shaped blocks of foam. Has made the world of difference.
