How is your IRA/401K retirement allocated?

by that math, 67% * 30 years = 20.1x salary :) assuming salary stays the same. personally, i'm still aiming for the stated 4% safe withdrawal rate / 25 x 100% salary at retirement. no ssn. no pension. very likely an annuity of some sort will be purchased to get some guaranteed income...

IRA early withdrawl penalties?

for 20k, you cant find another way of borrowing? house loan, car loan, bank loan, personal loan, family, etc.. should be plenty of ways to find 20k. 23.5k penalty on traditional ira is going to be your marginal tax rate on the whole thing + 10%. so if you are in the 25% bracket, you'll lose 35%...

option #1 be to wait until funds become available, then spend it option #2 get a loan using those funds as collateral, then spend it option #3 get a loan using anything else you have as collateral, plan to pay back with funds in future i suppose one could go the home equity loan road to finance...

i subscribe to this theory as well but i'd add a third option taxable. there are various ways of gaming the system, but with no idea on what the system will look like in the future, the best bet (just like in asset allocation) is to have a piece of it all. in that way you can line up withdraws...

Can you survive on wine if there is no water?

makes me wonder if one can reduce the abv of a say coors light with the alcohol smoking technique say 2-3 percentage points, enough to hydrating. one could then potentially collect the alcohol vapors and condense back for use in sterilizing things?

Yea..... I knew mall markup was ridiculous, but not THIS ridiculous.

my ring cost me $50. i'm not even sure what it's made of. titanium or carbide or something.. we got it at a local jeweler in conjunction to the then fiancee's custom setting. i even lost it once and they replaced it for free. then again.. check this tanga link out from today :)...

Homemade air conditioner

basically you have a cooler full of ice, a cold zone. the fans draw heat into the cooler, or rather through it and dump the heat from the outside inside. once the temps inside the cooler equals the temps outside, it dun work no more. as butch mentioned before, this action results in condensation...

Homemade air conditioner

heh i'm actually in process of building something similar. based off the 12v portable air conditioner off instructables for my 11 year old car who's ac needs to have the evaporator replaced, which requires the entire front dash come off so is not worth paying to have really fixed. 28qt igloo...
