get the x10 mouseremote. i have one and am very pleased with it. i can control anything on my computer (winamp, web, launch programs, anything) plus my tv, vcr, and all the lights in my house with one remote, and you dont have to point it at your PC, cause it RF. it was only $20 when i bought...

How bad is computer noise in dorm rooms?

theres ging to be alot of noise all around you in a dorm room anyways. I found that the fan noise from my computer actually drowned out everything else that was annoying.
