He said that sometimes he picks it up and it will shut down or sometimes it will shut down just sitting there. Also, apparently has issues printing or playing internet radio unless he reboots. A couple times during a busy day, it gets hung up loading a large word or pdf doc. He travels...

Mid-range DAW PC, light gaming

Given that this will be my processor, any thoughts on whether I should go with the same recommended motherboard, or should I go with the one in the mid-range recommendation for more "future-proofing"? I hadn't originally planned on overclocking, but I guess if it's relatively safe these days...

I just decided to go with the i7 3770K deal at Buy.com. Basically, $250 after the first-time customer and rewards points. I'm thinking of just going with the integrated graphics for now since I've likely gone over budget on the processor. This processor should last me longer too.

Sounds good. I'm thinking that I could probably go with something more basic for video. What's the minimum I would want to run to not have any issues with HD video at my resolution and at least get by ok with games like GTA IV? Actually, pardon my ignorance, but with this type of processor...

Great, thanks! The recording interfaces go through USB. I should have also mentioned that I will likely be using the Reaper recording software, as well as multiple plug ins. That's why I was thinking 16 gig of ram might be beneficial. Thanks again!

Heck, I remember my two Voodoo 2 cards running in SLI just for "3D" graphics. That was on my 400 mhz 0entium. Life was so much simpler then. *sigh* LOL
