Is buying a 1200W PCP&P just stupid?

Okay, so putting price aside--i.e., don't factor it into the decision--which PSU would everyone choose: the Corsair 1000HX, or the Enermax Revolution85+ 1050? It did bother me a bit that the Enermax--even w/all its hype--only has a 3-yr. warranty, while I notice the Corsair has 5, but again...

i7 and OC'ing--what am I missing?

Slowly working towards speccing out a new build. I think I have misunderstood the overclocking capabilities of previous Intel procs, because before the i7, I thought you needed an "Extreme" version to OC (officially, I mean). For example, my current rig has a OX9650, which oddly is still selling...

I've read thru the stickies, and--tho I probably missed how to do it--how does one exactly calculate the total power draw for a new build, to know how large a PSU to get, while still allowing some headroom? I'm still speccing out my new build, but for example, let's say it will have a Core i7...

Whoosh! Okay, too many opinions to quote, but I'll try to go thru and reply as best I can. @yh125d: Don't know about "overclocked to hell" ;) but the option would be nice. The idea is to get one PSU now that will last at least 2-3 builds. Not saying the 1200W PCP&C is it, but... don't know...

If my math is right, a similar setup would be right around 60% of full load on that 1200W PSU, which is a sweet spot for it, efficiency-wise. The reviews I read say that below 10-20% load, it's not very efficient, but gets much better aboove 30% or so. Plus, 60% would keep the fan from running...

Esp since this particular PSU has a 7-year warranty. Plus, I don't think I've ever seen one on sale before.

Slooowly moving into my next build--Core i7--940, or maybe 965 if I get the scratch together and I'm feeling crazy that day; will decide on GPU at the time, but pretty much a guarantee at least one double-wide, maybe two. If buying today, maybe two Radeon 4870X2's--will see what nVidia does...

Not a bad idea, using XP in a dual-boot. (Never done the dual-boot thing before, but have read about it a lot. Will have to dig back thru some old PC Mag/PC World issues to see how to do it. Or you can suggest the best way... hint, hint. ;) ) Even tho Vista has quite a few warts, it does...
