If you have cash to burn and/or just need the best, the 3090 is the obvious best performer. The 3080 is clearly (based on NV slides) the best performer for the money. If $699 is too high, I cannot see how the 3070 makes a great case seeing how cut down that it is for only $200 less. My opinion...

Can the Xbox 1 or the PS4 handle HDR blu-ray?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if MS focused on providing support for these via firmware updates based on the PS4 not supporting UHD. If they patched these 'holes' the S would be a fantastic choice for enthusiasts. I personally don't miss these features, but I understand those who might want them.

You would think so, but apparently an updated BD drive is required for UHD playback. MS added this for the new Xbx One S model. As you state, you would think Sony would be supporting this, but you would also think they would have highlighted it has the new drive? My source isn't definitive, but...

Totally agree. Would cut down a LOT on cable clutter, would help considerably for SFF builds and make the whole process much more elegant. 20 years ago, you had a single power cable to your MB and then to any external/internal drives. Imagine using a M.2 drive (no external power needed) on a MB...
