I have a computer in my living room that we use for web surfing, chromecasting, video watching, and word processing. Its an E8400 with 4GB memory and a 120GB SATAII SSD drive. I notice very little difference from when I use my i7 4770K with 16GB memory on a SATAIII SSD 512GB. I don't use it...

Hopefully Final Build (Might need tweaking)

All of the 1366 mobos for the i7 are tri channel memory. An i7 920 goes for about $200 shipped on ebay right now . . . .

using CPU's newer than the motherboard

The last bios update from the manufacturer was in 2007, that CPU was released in 2008. IF, it boots, and it probably will, it will be missing the correct "microcode" for that processor. I ran one similar to that (a core2quad on a p35) for a month before i realized. There was a bios update...

Best board for home server

I have used a few of the Gigabyte ultra durable mobos in builds lateley. One of them is a file server that has been running 24/7 for 1 year come September using the integrated RAID in 10, 2GB DDR2, and an Q6600. We just leave it on and forget about it. The only motherboard that has crapped...

DO YOURSELF A HUGE FAVOR AND SHOP EBAY FOR YOUR PROCESSOR. For the same amount of money you could get a E6750 with a higher clock speed, more L2 cache, and a higher FSB speed. You could also get the same E7200processor you are looking at for around $20 cheaper at auction.

Argh why is my dell 530 so slow??

32 bit windows can only address 3 gb of ram. If you want more, you have to go to a 64 bit operating system. The 1gb ram was probably slowing you down. Don;t you now see an immediate increase in performance? You could always install xp on that thang. Core 2 duo system run xp as fast as we...
