Worthy upgrade from 2600k yet?

I'm still running a 2600K with a Z68 board and it does everything I ask of it. One reason I kept my current system was because of the cheap thermal paste used on IVB and HSW chips. Solder is king.

Sandy bridge quad -> Ivy bridge quad -> Haswell quad..... is it worth upgarding?

At normal prices, I would never think about upgrading to a 4770K from a 2700K but would it be worth it for those of us who can take advantage of Intel's Retail Edge program? I'm not really sure it is. The 4770K is $79 but a decent LGA1150 motherboard is around $130-$150 and the minuscule...

Gave windows 8 a proper try, still sucks

It's too bad that Microsoft decided to shove mobile on everyone. The Start menu is very important to my work flow and the search feature in W7 is superb. Besides the missing Start menu the biggest gripe I have is the lack of Aero Glass. I don't sit around staring at Windows Explorer all...

Poll: Q6600 owners, what did you upgrade/plan to upgrade to?

I upgraded to a 2600K only because I was able to buy one for a good price. Otherwise I would have waited for Haswell.

does your system run cooler with case side panels off?

My 2600K and GTX560Ti both run hotter with the side panel removed. The temps increase 3-4 degress. I use a CM Centurion 5. With the panel on my 2600K idles at 28c and goes to around 50c with room temps being in the mid 70's F. On a side note, dust is a huge problem for me too since I live...

Which Z68 motherboard? Simple needs...

Have a look at the Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-B3. For $119 you get a board that can easily overclock to 4.2Ghz+ with a simple ratio increase. SLI capable, USB3.0 and it is compatible with Ivy Bridge in case you want to upgrade to 22nm in 2012. I have been very happy with mine...

How much have you spent at newegg over the years?

Around $2500 which is nothing compared to some of you guys. Started buying in 2008 when I finally bit the bullet and did what I should have done years ago which was to build my own system.

Z68 Motherboard Discussion...

Can anyone with a Gigabyte Z68 board please try something? I just updated my D3H-B3 to the latest BIOS which is F10 and Turbo Boost has changed. When I enable XMP, that sets my memory to 1600Mhz. It also, as of BIOS F10, adjusts the clock ratio from 34 to 38. It WILL NOT let me set it back...

Another dying GTX560Ti

These issues are probably hardware related, but ever since 270.XX I have been getting various texture glitches and strange flashing objects too and I don't believe my card is bad. I tested my card with OCCT GPU/OCCT GPU Memory and Furmark and while the card ran at its maximum for over 20...

Do yourself a favor, and stay away from cheaper Z68 Gigabyte boards!

I'm running the D3H-B3 right now with a 2600K and it rocks! OK, it isn't for everyone but it is by no means a "cheap" board. At least compared to the other choices in this price range. I compared it to my older Gigabyte EP35-DS3L before installing it and it is almost identical in terms of build...
