Background: So an older Compaq Presario notebook started having display problems a long time back. It got sent in and Compaq techies told us that they'd replace the whole mobo for $600. I suspect the problem was something got scrambled (by heat build up?) in the video card and everything else...

pretty nice deal if the cartridges are full capacity versions; unfortunately they're usually lower capacity starter cartridges from what I've heard. But hey, giving away the printers after you've used up the ink would be easy, seemingly magnanimous gifts.

the one year, instead of three year, warranty is a considerable hang-up for me. also wish there were an option for accidental damage coverage (e.g. dell's "complete care"). even if IBM is less likely to break down, all those integrated components in any laptop make for prohibitively expensive...
Without calling in and asking it's hard to be absolutely sure about what will and won't work. The SE rebate says that it cannot be combined with any other offers on the EPP/SSF website. I don't know if the packing slip/receipt will show that any other discounts were applied... I would think...
Placed my order on 1/01/03 and have not received a cancellation call/email... status still shows "shipped". dunno if Staples is just being lax in letting me know about the cancellation or if i'm still golden.
