Passivvvvve!

many dell's use them and still today use passive for their new machines. They just opt for the fan on the case with a bezel to suck the heat off the heatsink. As long as you have good airflow you should be able to run them passive. A lot of servers run them :)

they may have a proxy setup for internet access where she's at, have her ask some of the staff about it at the computer lab....if there is one.

P4C800-E LAN & USB Problems

I have this board and I haven't had any of these problems. Could just be a bad mobo. I haven't loaded any drivers for the LAN or USB other than the standards and chipset drivers. Perhaps resetting the bios and drivers and starting over may help.

Trying to download some items from the "Critical Updates and Service Packs" section on the Windows Update page...

I had this problem awhile ago getting direct X 8 of all things installed. It kept quitting and giving me that error. I have no idea what I did to fix it but have seen this before.

winxp user profile trouble

First off you dont want to use the administrator account. Secondly you should have a back door incase something goes wrong. so... Log in as admin. Go to user Accounts and create a new account with admin rights and without a password. Log out....done. Once you create an account otehr than...

switching between LCD and CRT monitor

hahahaah, me too. I have my dual monitor computer, my wifes computer and a tv mounted on the wall for both of us to view. I spend most of my time in my computer room, even if I am just watching tv. I HAVE THE FAT TO PROVE IT...

DVI a big deal?

Exactly, how often do you buy monitors. So if you're spending a lot of money already, why not get the extra functionality now instead of desiring it later. The LCD's should last you years and having DVI now before it eventually becomes standard would be a good move.

Which is louder?

I am along the same line. I like having a fairly quiet pc, but is the decible level of the card going to sway you one way or another on a $400 purchase? That wouldnt seem logical from my point of view. If one is 10db louder, would you not buy it based on that? that's the only reason I got a bit...

HD size troubles

If you're all set and the computer see's all of the disk. Right-click My Computer and go to Manage, then disk management. It should show a portion of the disc unused. (unparition space i think). You should be able to create another partition from this space merely by right-clicking on the graphic.

Well, if you read my post, you might see some questions in it. which means I am actually adding to the thread and not spamming, much like your post above... So, I am really curious now what the differences would be, and why they would matter...seriously. Is it just a preference or a reasoning...

perhaps you need to take a peek in your BIOS, and make sure your Aperature size is set to 256, and also your AGP is setup correctly.

What the? I want conclusive proof. Macs?!

It will be hard to get a good review of a mac on this site also. I'm not sure there are a whole lot hangin around here. I'm definitely a pc guy and an idiot when it comes to the details of a mac....sorry.
