See, that's what I thought at first, but when I jumped from an Opteron 165 to the i7, and saw NO improvement in the Dalaran mess, I was like "hmm, guess it wasn't the CPU after all". But after that thread up there... I'm thinking there was more to the story after all. It's entirely possible now...

What do you Use to Benchmark Games With?

Hi all, I've read lots of posts where some of you are listing off framerates from games, that you've benchmarked. I'm curious, what software is out there that allows this? Is it something FRAPS does or is there a dedicated program somewhere? Reason I ask is I have two 4890's and I'm curious...

WOW. Halfway into that thread, people like me with i7's start showing up and reporting some amazing results by re-allocating the cores available. I'm going to try this when I'm home from work... sounds like just what I need for my sole remaining issue. Thanks for posting that!

I can give you some real-world experience with this. Until last week, I played WoW for years on a single 8800GT video card (512MB), with an Opteron 165 processor (dual core) and 2 GB of RAM. OS is WinXP. With that setup, which is 5 years old except for the video card, I was able to play WoW...

Hi all, My 2nd 4890 GPU arrived today and before I attempt to install it, I wanted to clear up some questions. Each card came with (1) crossfire bridge cable; and each card has (2) crossfire ports on top. So, do I need to use both cables to connect both sets of ports? Or, is just one cable...

Will the $49 Win 7 "upgrade" work on a new HDD?

That's beside the point. The way I see it is that anyone with XP / Vista who tries the RC, has invalidated their eligiblity for the lower-priced upgrade because the RC wipes XP / Vista from their system. Pretty slick trick M$ pulled to generate more sales, IMO.

that's what I was afraid of. It sounds like anyone who had XP or Vista already installed, who then tried the Win 7 RC, just shot themselves in the foot and now has to do multiple OS installs. I think I'll just go back to XP and call it a day.

Educate me on HDD's

Thanks for the great replies, all. I ended up installing Win 7 64-bit RC on this HDD, and I was expecting to get the option to create partitions and/or format the drive like I do when I install XP, but I never did. The install just started right off and went to completion. So, with that...

Moving XP onto new hard drive

I don't really have any direct help, but I have a few other suggestions. First, since you have a licensed copy of XP, do you have one of those Windows Authentication stickers on your case or elsewhere? My local computer shop will burn me a copy of any OS as long as I bring in that sticker to...
