Hard drive of HP n5125

i noticed that there is a hidden partition of around 270MB on this Walmart.com notebook. i wonder what is in there and if it is safe to erase that partition and merge the empty space with the existing system partition. has anybody done that?

CDRW Maintenance Question

1) how long is a CDRW drive's life expectancy in terms of number of CD s burned? 2) how often do i need to clean/add oil to the drive? thanks.

Copying the whole DVD video into a CDR in new format (MPEG-4)

I tried to compress those VOB files, but i got only 2:1 compression. any idea on how to achieve 11:1 compression as claimed in the article?

rocmonster : The old MB is P2B and i broke it when trying to hook it up with a Copp 750 and The MB i'm using is Asus P3V4X, bios version 1005 HDDs are : quantum 13.6GB ATA66 for primary master and WD 8.4GB for primary slave Thanks

MotherBoard Dead?

Right now, the CPU Fan is not working. The CDRom power is on, BUT if i connect the IDE cable to the CDROM, power goes off. The same with HDDs. Is the motherboard dead? Thanks
