    CD-RW Question

If you plan to use it (copy, burn, whatever) while performing other intensive tasks SCSI may work better, thanks to much lower CPU utilization and not interfering with your IDE read-writes. Otherwise, 32x IDE will perform much better.

Opinions on RAID 5 for storage array

In my case, four-drive RAID 5 was roughly 30% slower than three-drive RAID 0. (10k SCSI-160) I use software RAID though (Win 2k server). I heard that RAID controller can improve significantly performance. In your case (for IDE RAID 5 you need controller anyway) you may have better score.

WTH I added 3rd U160 SCSI drive and they keep failing back to narrow? *solved*

I have four 10k/u160 drives on one 32bit channel with no problem. But, when I was reinstalling drives into enclosure I pushed one pin on 68pin connector half way in. I didn't bend it, just pushed it in with plug. It forced the drive into 40MB mode, but just this one. It took me an hour to find...

Cheetah SCSI HD & Tekram: please help!

Try downloading new drivers and load it when setup asks for additional drivers. I have win2k on IDE drive and Tekram 390U2W for CDRW and scanner. 2k didn't see my drives till I reinstalled a driver.

Bend Over Boys. No Vaseline for you.. Time Warner to Charge Extra for Over-Quota Bandwidth

<< Most cable modem co's that charged $35 a month for 1+mb down and 256 up, were LOSING money, a lot of money, because bandwidth is expensive. I agree with it. They are doing it so they can become profitable, broadband won't take off until its profitable. Honestly if you want unlimited...

Are there any small P4 motherboards that will fit in this very small case?

How about going Athlon way? You can get Abit NV7m which is microATX board with nForce chipset, integrated nVidia graphics on a level of GF2MX, sound with spdif out, lan. You still have AGP and three PCI for some future upgrades. It's cheap ($121), suports DDR and cheaper CPU. BTW, case...

    SCSI CD still beats ATA

You might be right that problem with my DVD drive is not being ATA - but being "cheapo". Still CPU utilization is of some importance since mp encoder uses everything available, up to 100%

    SCSI CD still beats ATA

I just run some tests on my CD drives, to determine the best configuration for a giant task of transforming my CD library into MP3. Drives are: 4 months old DVD 16x ATA (supposedly 40xCD), 3 years old SCSI CD 24x, 6 months old SCSI-2 CD-RW 12/10/32. I put first handy game CD and run Sandra...

Please Suggest a MoBo with SCSI, RAID, AMD

Tyan's Thunder K7 S2462, dual MP with on-board U160 although I don't think it's zero-RAID. Which means if you want to run some serious RAID you better buy mobo without SCSI controller, as most RAID controllers are already equipped with SCSI controller. S2462 is unfortunately $400+. My...

SCSI vs. IDE - what would YOU do?

SCSI rocks in RAID. Sandra on my 3xU160 10k Fujitsus in RAID 0 went to 65,000. Unfortunately since I added fourth one for RAID5 (software, still not enough money for controller) it dropped to 46,000. They're in my domain/application server. The other three machines are very happy with IDE...

    Leaving your computer on 24/7/356!!!

Two of four run 24/7. One is a server. The other is my information and media center. If I watch a movie and want to check some info on actor's bio, or get some facts checked while following History channel documentary, or how to get to some address in town, or just watch same music videos (ones...

Monitor cable attached to monitor 2 broken pins

It happened to me some 5-6 years ago. NEC warranty covered repair (even when breaking pins is evidently users fault), as long as as cable was not messed with. You didn't say how old is your monitor (most have 3 yrs warranty). If it's under warranty check with manufacturer, maybe they'll fix...
